In Asunción, pick the area before the price: the historic centre if you want to explore the old town on foot, Villa Morra and Avenida Aviadores del Chaco for business, malls and restaurants, and Luque if you have an early flight or an event at Conmebol. On a tight budget, look near the bus terminal and check the property's tourism registration before you pay.

Which area of Asunción should you stay in?

  • Historic centre. A walking base for the Palacio de López, the Panteón de los Héroes and the Casa de la Independencia. It fills up least: during the IDB meetings in March 2026, the centre was at 10–30% occupancy (La Nación, 2026 (opens in a new tab)).
  • Villa Morra and Aviadores del Chaco. Villa Morra, in the north-east, mixes homes and shops, with Paseo Carmelitas, Paseo Mangoré and Villa Morra Shopping (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Best for dinners out and offices.
  • Luque, by the airport. Silvio Pettirossi airport is in Luque, next to the Conmebol complex. During the same IDB event Villa Morra and Luque were at 90–100% (La Nación, 2026 (opens in a new tab)), so book early when a congress or a final is in town.
  • Barrio Terminal. The bus terminal sits between Avenida Fernando de la Mora and Avenida República Argentina and handles about 25,000 passengers a day, over 50,000 at Christmas, New Year and Holy Week (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Good for one night before or after a long bus ride.

Luxury and historic hotels

Palmaroga Hotel (Tapestry Collection by Hilton), historic centre. Opened in December 2024 as Hilton's first hotel in Paraguay, in a 1901 building that housed the Superior Court of Justice. It has 107 rooms, a rooftop pool, a gym and an inner courtyard, within walking distance of the Palacio de López and the Panteón; the airport is about 19 km away (Journal des Palaces (opens in a new tab)). Its restaurant is La María, and in November 2025 it hosted Shakira's team (Infonegocios (opens in a new tab)). Choose it for luxury plus a walkable old town.

Sheraton Asunción, Aviadores del Chaco 2066. A chain hotel in the office district with an outdoor pool and gym (Marriott (opens in a new tab); Kayak (opens in a new tab)). Suits business trips around Aviadores and Villa Morra.

Gran Hotel del Paraguay, De la Residenta and Padre Pucheau. Once Madame Lynch's country house, it became a hotel in the 19th century and has been run by the Weiler family since 1921, now in its fourth generation (Infonegocios, 2022 (opens in a new tab); Famous Hotels (opens in a new tab)). For travellers who prefer leafy grounds and history over a modern tower.

For smaller design hotels in Villa Morra or Carmelitas, see boutique hotels in Asunción.

Near the airport and Conmebol

Bourbon Conmebol Asunción Convention Hotel, Luque. Right next to the Conmebol Convention Centre, about 3 minutes from the airport, with 168 rooms (Infonegocios, 2015 (opens in a new tab); Successful Meetings (opens in a new tab)). Practical for dawn flights and convention-centre events, but far from the historic centre.

Access to the airport area is among the most congested routes into Asunción at peak hours (La Nación, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). If you sleep downtown and fly on a weekday morning, leave with time to spare or spend your last night in Luque.

Budget hotels: avoiding mistakes

  • Choose the area first. A night near the terminal saves a ride with luggage; several nights downtown save taxis if you will walk.
  • Check the registration. Tourism providers must register with Senatur's National Tourism Register (Registur), and since 2024 so must short-term rentals offered online or on social media (La Nación, 2024 (opens in a new tab)). Senatur advises checking Registur (opens in a new tab) before paying (La Nación, 2024 (opens in a new tab)); make sure the name and address match the listing.
  • On holidays, get it in writing. With the terminal packed at Holy Week or year-end, confirm the booking and check-in time by message.

What to ask before booking

  • Parking: on site or not, and whether it costs extra.
  • Late arrival: who lets you in after midnight.
  • Room: street-facing or courtyard, and working air conditioning; Asunción summers are hot.
  • Final price: rate with taxes and breakfast, plus cancellation and deposit rules, in a message you can keep.
