In this guide
Burgers in Asunción come in two broad kinds: the lomitería burger, quick and cheap, which cost around G. 15,000 to 23,000 in November 2025, and the gourmet burger, with chosen cuts and breads, found mostly in burger joints and food parks such as the one in Mburucuyá. Pick the style and the occasion first (fast lunch or relaxed dinner), then the place; if someone at the table is coeliac, ask about gluten-free buns before you go.
Which burger style do you want?
- Smash: a ball of fresh beef pressed onto a very hot griddle, so it cooks fast and gets crispy edges. Bruno Brusquetti of La Burguesa describes it as "two thin, well-cooked patties" (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)).
- Thick or gourmet: a tall patty from blends with different fat ratios (70/30 or 80/20) and cuts such as picaña, ribeye, sirloin or wagyu (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). Ask how it is cooked.
- Bread and extras: cheese, garlic, seeded or beer buns, and sauces with local touches like sugar-cane honey. Brusquetti reckons the bun is half the burger (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)).
- Other meats: buffalo, lamb, goat, pork shoulder or vegetarian options, depending on the kitchen (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)).
- Lomitería style: the neighbourhood classic. The fast, cheap option.
Where can you eat a gourmet burger?
Food Park Mburucuyá. On Avenida Santísima Trinidad near Julio Correa, in the Mburucuyá neighbourhood. It was built without cutting down trees, so you eat almost in a wood, with about 20 food stalls including burgers, pizza, and Asian and Mexican food (InfoNegocios, 2017 (opens in a new tab)). It was planned from the start with its own parking (ABC Color, 2017 (opens in a new tab)). Good for an evening with friends or kids, since everyone picks their own. The 2017 hours are out of date, so check its social media before you go.
La Burguesa. Chef Bruno Brusquetti started it at Food Park Mburucuyá in March 2017 (La Nación, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). It was the first in Asunción to offer gluten-free burgers with care over cross-contamination; it has six regular burgers served with fries plus a "burger of the week", and the most ordered was the rib-meat (entrecostilla) burger. In 2022 it opened from 18:30 and took orders on (0982) 564-333 (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). Brusquetti still runs it and co-organises the 2026 Burger Fest (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). Its branches have changed over the years, so check its Instagram for the nearest one.
Is there a burger festival in Asunción?
The country's first Burger Fest was announced for Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October 2026 at Complejo Barrail Costanera, with about ten burger kitchens, food trucks, live music, a Kids Zone and general entry at G. 49,500 (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab); tickets on Tuti (opens in a new tab)). It is the quickest way to try several styles in one outing and note your favourites for later.
