How to choose: pharmacies
In Lambaré, the right pharmacy is the one that has your medicine today and sits on your side of the traffic: Avenida Cacique Lambaré has many of the city's pharmacies, but if you live away from it, a neighbourhood one saves you the trip. Before you go, message or call with the exact name of the medicine and check they have it and how late they are open, especially if you need one at night.
Where to look in Lambaré
Lambaré has 28 barrios and borders Asunción to the north and west and Villa Elisa to the south-east (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Think of it like this:
- Avenida Cacique Lambaré: the main commercial strip, with banks, supermarkets, shopping centres and pharmacies (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). The most choice within a few blocks, and the heaviest rush-hour traffic.
- Avenida Luis María Argaña: many new businesses opened here over the past decade (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)); if you live on that side, look there first.
- Edge barrios (Mbachio, Valle Apu'a, Santa Rosa, Puerto Pabla, Cuatro Mojones): if you live near the Asunción or Villa Elisa border, a pharmacy across the line may be closer than one in central Lambaré.
Are there 24-hour pharmacies in Lambaré?
Opening hours vary by shop and day, and the hours on your phone's map are not always current. For nights, Sundays or holidays:
- Save two or three pharmacies near you with their WhatsApp numbers.
- Call before you go even if the map says "open 24 hours", and ask whether your medicine is in stock.
- If it is an emergency a counter can't solve, go straight to a health service instead of driving around looking for a pharmacy.
What you need for prescription medicines
- Antibiotics: since 1 November 2018 they are sold only with a prescription. It must show the patient's name, diagnosis, ID number, the phrase "válido por cinco días de su emisión" (valid for five days from issue) and the doctor's signature and stamp with registration number (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). After five days the pharmacy can't sell on that prescription.
- Generics: if the brand you were prescribed is out, ask for an alternative with the same active ingredient and check with the pharmacist or your doctor.
- Comparing prices: Paraguay's pharmacy chamber (Cafapar) has a product search (opens in a new tab) with fields for name, active ingredient, price and laboratory.
What to check at the counter
Dinavisa, the national health regulator, oversees pharmacies. Its inspections found products not registered in Paraguay, sales above the set price and pharmacies without cold-chain equipment (Última Hora). That means three checks:
- Health registration: every medicine entering the country must have its registration number printed on the box, along with the laboratory. If you can't see it, don't buy it.
- Cold chain: insulin, vaccines and other refrigerated products must come out of a fridge.
- Licensing: Dinavisa offers a public "Establecimientos Habilitados" lookup on its licensing page (opens in a new tab).
And be wary of "miracle" remedies sold on Instagram or WhatsApp: Dinavisa calls those sales completely illegal (Última Hora).
Paying and delivery
- Ask whether they take QR, card or bank transfer. QR is now the most used electronic payment in Paraguay, at 68.1% of payments processed by Bancard in April 2026 (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
- For delivery, confirm the fee, delivery time and that the product matches your prescription, all in the same chat.
- Keep the invoice and a photo of the box, useful for complaints or for buying the same product elsewhere.
Planning your monthly refill
If you take a long-term medicine, reorder a few days before you run out, especially if stock is patchy. Note the active ingredient, dose and presentation, and keep a valid prescription handy so you don't depend on a single pharmacy.
