In this guide
For a night out in Lambaré, the main axis is Avenida Cacique Lambaré: the central plaza, the bowling alley and the shopping arcades are there. For sunset, head to the Costanera Sur and Cerro Lambaré on the border with Asunción, ideally while it is still light.
Where to watch the sunset by the river
Costanera Sur. An 8.1 km avenue along the Paraguay River from the end of calle Colón in Asunción to its exit near Cerro Lambaré, according to Última Hora (opens in a new tab). It has a bike lane, wide footpaths, parking, parks and an open-air amphitheatre. It opened on 20 July 2024, and ABC (opens in a new tab) noted that Lambaré residents gain the most, since they can enter and leave the city without Avenida Félix Bogado.
- Arrive an hour before sunset, walk or cycle, and head back with the last light.
- Bring water: the stretch is long and some parts have little shade.
Cerro Lambaré and the Monumento a la Paz Victoriosa. The hill stands on the riverbank in Asunción's Jukyty neighbourhood, right where the Costanera Sur ends. At the top is a lookout with a monument completed in 1982 and the statue of the cacique Lambaré. According to Wikipedia (opens in a new tab), visits rose once the Costanera Sur opened, and the site is a protected landscape with a management plan running to 2034. Go up in daylight: for years the hill was neglected and unsafe.
Playa Municipal de Puerto Pabla. A small beach on the Paraguay River in the Puerto Pabla neighbourhood. It is a place to sit by the river with tereré; check municipal notices before you swim.
Where to eat or drink at night
Avenida Cacique Lambaré. The city's main commercial axis, per InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab), with supermarkets, shopping centres and places to eat. Avenida Luis María Argaña has also added new venues over the past decade. Without a fixed plan, drive these two avenues and stop where it is busy.
Shopping arcades. On Avenida Cacique Lambaré are Paseo Cerro Alto (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)) and Shopping Century Plaza (La Nación (opens in a new tab)), and on Avenida Argaña, Paseo del Totto (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). They work for dinner with parking sorted or a quiet outing on a rainy day.
What to do with friends besides eating
Strike Bowling. On Avenida Cacique Lambaré, with 20 lanes, according to InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab). The classic plan for a Friday with friends or a birthday; book a lane if you are a big group.
Football at Estadio Luciano Zacarías. Home of Club Atlético Colegiales, with room for about 8,000 people. Check the club's fixtures and pair the match with dinner on the avenue.
Daytime and family plans
Plaza Central and Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Rosario. The plaza sits on Avenida Cacique Lambaré, in front of the city's oldest church, whose façade dates from 1846. Next to it are the obelisk to those who died in the Chaco War and the municipal building.
Casa de la Cultura Profesor Héctor Portillo. A former mansion turned museum, behind the municipal building. Combine it with the plaza on one walk.
Monumento a la Burrerita. Also on Avenida Cacique Lambaré, unveiled in 1987, it is the city's tribute to its burreritas. A quick photo stop on the way to the plaza.
Eco Parque Felicidad. An ecological park by the arroyo Lambaré with sports courts, for kids to run around or an afternoon kickabout.
Getting around Lambaré at night
Lambaré borders the south of Asunción. The Costanera Sur takes you to central Asunción in a few minutes without the traffic lights on Avenida Félix Bogado. To get home at night, order a ride-hailing car and wait for it inside, especially around the hill or the waterfront.
