In Lambaré, most shopping happens along Avenida Cacique Lambaré, the city's main corridor, with banks, supermarkets, shopping centres and pharmacies; Avenida Luis María Argaña is the other area that has filled up with new businesses (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). For vegetables and farm produce straight from the grower, look out for the Ministry of Agriculture's family-farm market, which sets up in the city regularly.

Where to shop on Avenida Cacique Lambaré

This is where you can do several errands in one trip (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)):

In the second half of 2025 the avenue got its biggest road investment in 16 years, according to the municipality (InfoNegocios, 2026 (opens in a new tab)), but it is still the busiest road in town: go mid-morning if you can.

What is on Avenida Luis María Argaña?

This is where most new businesses have opened in recent years (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). It is home to Paseo del Totto, an arcade with restaurants (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab); InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). If you want somewhere to eat after your errands, see Lambaré restaurants by area.

Where is the family-farm market?

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) brings small producers to Lambaré to sell directly, from early morning until stock runs out (La Nación, 2024 (opens in a new tab)). The usual spots are:

Dates change every month (ABC Color, 2025 (opens in a new tab)): check MAG's social media the week before, bring bags and cash, and go early, because the popular items sell out first.

What about the Costanera Sur?

The Costanera Sur riverside road, opened in July 2024, has a linear park of about 1,000 metres with 13 food outlets, playgrounds and an amphitheatre (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). It is not for errands, but it is a good place to end the afternoon with something to eat once the sun drops.

How do you handle municipal paperwork?

  • *Business licence (patente):* if you are opening premises, the municipality is handling a growing number of applications to open or regularise commercial, industrial and service licences (InfoNegocios, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). Ask which papers your trade needs before you sign a lease.
  • *Vehicle permit (habilitación):* due by 30 June. In 2026 there were long queues the day after; the municipality extended hours to 07:00–15:00 that week and opened a drive-through payment point beside its headquarters. The fine for an expired permit can reach 10 daily minimum wages (Hoy (opens in a new tab)). Do not leave it to the last week.

Getting around and paying

  • Rain: the municipality asked drivers to avoid several junctions during heavy downpours, such as Cacique Lambaré with Río Apa, Humaitá or Héroes del 70, and Argaña with Purificación (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). In a heavy storm, wait for the water to drain.
  • Traffic: from the Villa Elisa side, Avenida Defensores del Chaco gets congested (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)); check your phone's map app before leaving.
  • QR: in April 2026, 68.1% of electronic payments on the Bancard network were made by QR (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). Still, take cash for the farmers' market.
  • Invoices and prices: every sale must be invoiced, and a sale sign must show the previous price, the discount and the current cash price (Sedeco via ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). If the till charges more than the shelf, complain to the manager and, if it is not fixed, take a photo and file a complaint on the Sedeco website (Hoy (opens in a new tab)).
