How to choose a mechanic in Limpio: the right speciality for the fault, where to look along PY03, written quotes under Ley 1334 and storm-season checks.

To choose a mechanic in Limpio, first work out what is wrong (engine, brakes, electrics, air conditioning, bodywork) and whether it is a car, motorbike or truck, because each goes to a different kind of workshop. Then find a shop with that speciality near your barrio and on your side of Route PY03, and do not authorise any repair without a written diagnosis and quote.

Which workshop do you need?

  • General mechanics: engine, clutch, gearbox, suspension, brakes, plus oil and filter services.
  • Auto electrics and fuel injection: will not start, cuts out, flat battery, warning light on the dash. Ask whether they have a diagnostic scanner for your make.
  • Radiator and air conditioning: overheating, losing coolant, AC not cooling.
  • Panel beating and paint: dents and insurance jobs. Ask whether they work with your insurer.
  • Tyres, alignment and balancing: worn tyres, vibration, a car that pulls to one side.
  • Motorbikes: go to a motorbike shop; many car workshops will not take them.
  • Trucks and vans: Route PY03 is the road to northern Paraguay and Limpio has freight traffic, including the Abasto Norte wholesale market (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). For air brakes or heavy suspension, find a workshop set up for large vehicles and ask whether your truck fits on the premises.

Where to look in Limpio

Limpio is about 19 km from Asunción and grew along Route PY03, the Trans-Chaco highway (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). The stretch between Mariano Roque Alonso and Limpio was widened with viaducts and a roundabout (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)), so getting from one side to the other is not always direct. The barrios are also spread out, from Piquete Cue and Isla Aveiro by the river to Rincón del Peñón, Salado and Mbayué.

In practice:

  • If the car still runs, choose a workshop on your daily route so you can drop it off in the morning and collect it on the way home.
  • If it is overheating, braking badly or making a loud noise, do not drive onto PY03 in heavy traffic: find somewhere in your barrio or call a tow truck.
  • If you work in Asunción or Mariano Roque Alonso, consider a workshop near work, depending on how many days the car will be off the road.

To find options, search your phone's map for the speciality you need ("electricidad automotriz", "alineación y balanceo", "taller de motos") near your barrio, read recent reviews and ask neighbours who drive a similar car.

What the workshop must tell you before starting

Paraguay's consumer law, Ley 1334/98 (opens in a new tab), requires service providers to tell you the materials they will use, the price including taxes, the payment terms and how long the quote is valid (art. 15). Any unplanned work or cost must be communicated to you before it is done (art. 16). Any warranty must be in writing (art. 11).

So ask for:

  • A written diagnosis, and whether it is charged separately or deducted if you go ahead with the repair there.
  • Parts and labour listed separately, with the brand and whether parts are original, aftermarket or used.
  • A completion date and a call before any extra work.
  • The old parts back, so you can see they were actually replaced.

For an expensive job, compare quotes from two workshops with the same speciality.

How often to service the car

A mechanic interviewed by InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab) in April 2026 recommended a service every 10,000 km for new cars, per the manufacturer, and every 5,000 km for used engines, which make up most of Paraguay's fleet. According to the same article, oil and filters cost between G. 350,000 and G. 450,000 plus labour, and more for larger engines. Noises, oil consumption or loss of power are signs not to wait for the next service.

Rain, heat and cold: what to check in Limpio

  • In a heavy storm, do not drive through flooded streets. In April 2024 the Itay and Damián streams burst their banks: cars were stranded or swept away, people were rescued in Piquete Cue and traffic seized up around the Surubi'i viaduct on the border with Mariano Roque Alonso (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). If the engine stalls in water, do not restart it: call a tow truck.
  • Before summer: radiator, hoses, cooling fan and AC. Highs in Limpio reach about 40 °C (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)) and AC specialists get busy in December.
  • In winter: lows can drop to around 0 °C (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). If the car is slow to start on cold mornings, have the battery tested before it leaves you stranded.
  • Rain is heaviest from January to April (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)): a good time to check wipers, tyres and brakes.

Collecting the car, and if something goes wrong

  • Ask for a legal invoice (factura) listing parts and labour. The consumer agency Sedeco reminds businesses that an invoice is due on every sale of goods and services (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)), and without one a warranty claim is hard.
  • Take a short test drive with the mechanic to confirm the problem is gone.
  • Note the mileage and date of the next check-up.

QR payment is the most common method (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)), but ask beforehand whether they take cards or bank transfer for large amounts.

If the repair was not done properly and the workshop will not respond, you can file a complaint with Sedeco, the consumer protection agency, which has an online complaint form (Hoy (opens in a new tab)). Keep the written quote and the invoice to hand.

FAQ

How do I find a reliable mechanic in Limpio?

Look for a workshop with the speciality you need near your barrio and on your side of PY03, read recent reviews, and get a written diagnosis and quote before authorising the repair.

Can a workshop charge me for work I did not approve?

Under Ley 1334/98 (art. 16), any unplanned work or cost must be communicated to you before it is done. That is why a written quote matters.

How often should I service my car?

A mechanic quoted by InfoNegocios in 2026 recommended every 10,000 km for new cars and every 5,000 km for used engines. Check your vehicle's manual too.

What should I do if my car stalls in a flooded street?

Do not restart it, as that can damage the engine. Have it towed to a general mechanic for inspection.
