To choose a school in Limpio, first decide between public, subsidized private or private, then time the real trip at drop-off hour from your neighborhood. Public schools fill up quickly during enrollment week, so if you already have one in mind, find out the date early; at a private school, get everything charged during the year in writing before you reserve a place.

Public, subsidized private or private?

Paraguay has three kinds of school, and Limpio has all three:

  • Public (official): enrollment is free and automatic (opens in a new tab), and no public school may charge you to enroll your child.
  • Subsidized private: receives state support and usually charges less than a fully private school. It follows the official Ministry of Education (MEC) calendar.
  • Private: sets its own fees, teaching approach and, within MEC rules, its own calendar.

Before comparing buildings, check which levels each school covers: early education (nivel inicial), basic school (Escolar Básica, grades 1 to 9) and secondary (nivel medio). If you want your child to stay in one place throughout, ask whether all three are offered, and whether secondary offers the science track, a technical track or both.

When do you need to enroll?

The MEC publishes the school calendar every year. As a reference, in 2026 administrative work at public schools began on 10 February, classes on 23 February, and the school year ended on 30 November (opens in a new tab). Many private schools started earlier: the private schools' association named 9 February as the start date for most of them (opens in a new tab).

Public schools enroll on a first-come basis, and in Limpio parents have held overnight vigils outside a school to secure a place (opens in a new tab). In practice:

  • Ask the school office or other parents which day enrollment opens.
  • Bring the child's and the guardian's ID and, if changing schools, the previous year's report or certificate.
  • At a private school, reserve the place before the year ends if the grade has few openings.

What will the daily trip look like?

Limpio sits about 19 km from Asunción on Route PY03 (opens in a new tab) and spreads from the Centro out to neighborhoods such as Piquete Cue, El Peñón, Salado, San Marcos, Pilar del Norte and Isla Aveiro, bounded by the Paraguay, Salado and San Francisco rivers. Two schools that are both "in Limpio" can mean very different trips from your home.

  • Do the route once at drop-off time on a weekday before deciding.
  • If your child will take the bus, ride it together and check where they get off and whether they must cross the highway.
  • If you hire a school van, ask about the route, pick-up time and who to call if something goes wrong.
  • If you work in Asunción, weigh a school near home against one on your way to work.

What to ask on a visit

Visit during class time, not only at the admissions meeting. Questions that help you compare:

  • How many students per class, and how many sections per grade?
  • Is the shift morning or afternoon, or is there an extended day?
  • How do they communicate with families: notebook, WhatsApp or an online platform?
  • What support do they give children with learning difficulties or special needs?
  • What happens with classes after heavy rain when getting there is hard?

If English matters to you, ask how many hours a week and from which grade. Spanish and Guaraní are both part of the official curriculum at every school.

What costs come on top of the monthly fee?

At a private or subsidized school, ask for the full list: enrollment fee, monthly fee and how many months are charged, uniform, supplies, books, outings and extra activities. Compare the yearly total, not just the monthly fee.

At a public school, enrollment is free, but parents are usually asked to contribute to the school cooperation association (ACE). That contribution cannot be a condition for enrollment (opens in a new tab); if someone demands it, you can report it to the MEC on the free line 0800 11 49 75 or (021) 497-555 (opens in a new tab).
