To compare car dealerships and used-car yards (playas de autos) in Limpio, decide first between new and used, ask two or three sellers for the same vehicle with written cash and finance prices, and pay no deposit before you have seen the papers and had the car checked. Limpio is about 19 km from Asunción on Route PY03 (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), so comparing with Mariano Roque Alonso and the capital costs little.

Where to compare from Limpio

The city grew along PY03, the Trans-Chaco, its commercial spine (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). The stretch towards Mariano Roque Alonso was widened with viaducts and a roundabout (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)), but parked lorries still cause jams on that road (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)).

  • In Limpio: search your phone map for "playa de autos" and "concesionaria" with "Limpio" and save three options for the type of vehicle you want. Ask on WhatsApp for photos, mileage and the full price before going.
  • Mariano Roque Alonso and Asunción: add official brand showrooms and new stock. Go outside rush hour so PY03 does not eat your morning.
  • Every brand in one place once a year: the Cadam Motor Show brings together more than 40 brands with bank, finance-company and cooperative offers; in 2026 it ran at Paseo La Galería in Asunción until 9 August (ABC Color, 2026 (opens in a new tab)).

Also ask where servicing is done: if the official workshop is in Asunción, add that trip to every service.

New or used?

Watch out for flood-damaged cars

In April 2024 the Itay and Damián streams burst their banks in Limpio, stranding and sweeping away vehicles, with rescues in Piquete Cué (Última Hora, 2024 (opens in a new tab)). A car that sat in water can look fine and fail months later. Before buying a local used car:

  • Look under the mats and in the boot for mud, fresh rust or a damp smell.
  • Test every electrical item: windows, lights, dashboard, air conditioning.
  • Take it to a mechanic you trust; a serious yard will not refuse.

The papers you need to see

  • Public deed: a vehicle can only be transferred by notarial deed; a private contract does not transfer ownership (Vehicle Registry, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). Choose your own notary.
  • Registry certificate: shows the owner and liens such as pledges or seizures; it is issued within ten days, is valid for thirty, and registration is blocked if the chassis is listed as stolen (Acordada 503/2007 (opens in a new tab)).
  • Used car: deed, title-and-encumbrance certificate, verification certificate and municipal licence (Judiciary (opens in a new tab)).
  • New or unregistered import: deed, nationalisation certificate and verification certificate (same source).

Police check before any deposit

In July 2026 the police warned that cars stolen in Brazil, repainted or with forged papers, are being sold in Paraguay, mostly via social media; Toyota Fortuners and Hiluxes were the most seized (ABC Color, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). The advice is a full check at the National Police Vehicle Control Department, Paz del Chaco and Urundey, Santa Lucía, Lambaré, phone (021) 302 820 or 302 229. Call ahead for hours and pay nothing until you have the result.

If you finance at the yard

Law 1334/98 (opens in a new tab) (art. 29) requires every credit sale to state the cash price, interest and rate, surcharges, number and frequency of instalments and the total to pay. Under article 30 you can repay early with a proportional interest reduction. With that sheet from each seller, compare the total, not the instalment.
