In Limpio, the gym you'll actually keep going to is the one a few minutes from home or work that you can reach without battling Ruta PY03 at rush hour. Before you pay, train there once at your real time, check that it's well ventilated, and get the final price in writing.
A gym in your neighbourhood or on Ruta PY03?
Limpio grew along Ruta PY03 (opens in a new tab), and that road jams: in April 2026, trucks parked to unload soybeans caused a 5 to 6 km queue from central Limpio to the Mariano Roque Alonso boundary (opens in a new tab). If you have to cross or drive along the highway to get to the gym, that's the day you'll skip.
- If you live in barrios like Piquete Cué, Rincón del Peñón or Isla Aranda, look for something on your side and time the trip at the hour you'll actually go.
- If you work in Asunción or Mariano Roque Alonso, consider a gym near work and train before heading home, so you're not stuck on the highway.
- If you pass by Abasto Norte: across Ruta 3 is Plaza Norte, a mall that opened in July 2025 with Smart Fit among its first tenants (opens in a new tab) (also reported by InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). It's a chain option; compare it with a neighbourhood gym you can walk to.
What to check during a trial session
- Go at your usual time: the same floor looks very different at 6:00 and 19:00. Count how many machines and benches are free.
- Ventilation: summer highs in Limpio reach about 40 °C (opens in a new tab). The Ministry of Health recommends exercising in ventilated spaces or licensed gyms (opens in a new tab); if there's no working air conditioning or fans, you'll feel it in January.
- Who guides you: ask whether staff on the floor will set up and correct your routine, especially if you're starting out.
- Water: check for a water fountain or somewhere to refill your bottle.
What they must tell you before you pay
Paraguay's consumer protection law, Ley 1334 (opens in a new tab), sets clear rules that apply to any gym:
- Price including taxes and payment method: service providers must state the price, taxes included, and how it's paid (art. 15). Ask whether there's a separate sign-up fee.
- Readable contract: any standard form you sign must be legible and in clear terms (art. 25).
- No one-sided changes: a clause letting the gym change the price or terms on its own is considered abusive and void (art. 28).
- If you sign up outside the premises (by phone, for example), you have seven days to withdraw (art. 26).
- Always get an invoice: every sale of goods and services must be invoiced (opens in a new tab).
When to train in the heat
The Ministry of Health advises exercising before 10:00 or after 17:00 (opens in a new tab), drinking water before, during and after even if you're not thirsty, and wearing light clothing. If you feel dizzy, very tired, nauseous, cramping or have palpitations, stop, get somewhere cool and drink water; if it continues, go to the nearest health service.
Before you start, the ministry suggests a yearly check-up, and more often if you're over 40, overweight, have high blood pressure or diabetes, or have been sedentary.
How much to train to make the fee worth it
The WHO recommends adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week, plus muscle-strengthening on two or more days (opens in a new tab). In practice, three 50-minute sessions get you there. Pick the gym where those three visits feel easy, not the one with the most machines.
Your first week
- Do the trial at your real time and note how long the trip took.
- Get the monthly price, sign-up fee and what's included in writing.
- Put three fixed days in your calendar.
- Bring a water bottle and a towel.
