To choose a travel agency in Capiatá, first look it up in Registur, the national tourism register run by Senatur, and check that it is listed as licensed and operating. Then ask two agencies to quote the same trip in writing and compare what is included, how you pay and what happens if you cancel. For a simple bus ticket or a short outing nearby you often don't need an agency at all; agencies earn their fee on packages, multi-leg flights, groups and organised day trips.
How do I know the agency is licensed?
Senatur publishes registered agencies at registur.gov.py (opens in a new tab), each with its status: operating or permanently closed (ABC Color, 2024 (opens in a new tab)). For questions, Senatur answers on (021) 441 530, ext. 117, or at registur@senatur.gov.py.
- Search by trading name and by legal company name; they don't always match.
- In February 2026 Senatur warned about five companies selling packages on social media without being registered, at very low prices (La Nación, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). A deal that looks too good deserves a second check.
- The register also covers tourist transport and guides (La Nación, 2024 (opens in a new tab)), so you can check the bus company on a day tour too.
Capiatá sits about 23 km from Asunción on Route PY02 (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), so the agency doesn't need to be in your neighbourhood. Make first contact by WhatsApp or email and go to the office only to sign and pay.
Do you need an agency at all?
- Domestic or regional bus tickets: buy them at the company's counter in Asunción's bus terminal, on Avenida Fernando de la Mora at República Argentina, with more than 200 companies and departures to Encarnación, Ciudad del Este, Buenos Aires and São Paulo, among others (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). From Capiatá you get there by city bus; in May 2026 the metropolitan fare was G. 2,300 on a standard bus and G. 3,400 on a "diferencial" (Última Hora, 2026 (opens in a new tab)).
- Packages, multi-leg flights, cruises or group travel: this is where an agency pays off, because it coordinates the legs and answers when something goes wrong.
- Day trips: worth it if you want transport, guide and lunch sorted (see below).
What day trip can an agency organise?
The Circuito de Oro (Golden Circuit) is a route Senatur has promoted for about 30 years through towns in Central, Cordillera and Paraguarí, such as Areguá, Itauguá, Caacupé, Piribebuy, Tobatí and Yaguarón; the packages are sold by travel agencies (InfoNegocios, 2019 (opens in a new tab)). According to that report, the tour lasted 8 to 9 hours with lunch and an afternoon snack and cost between US$60 and US$80 depending on group size. Ask for the current price in writing and whether it is per person or per group.
If you have visitors staying in Capiatá, ask the agency to add a stop at the Museo Mitológico Ramón Elías on PY02 in town: it has life-size figures of Guaraní myths such as the kurupí and the jasy jateré, plus objects from the Triple Alliance and Chaco wars (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab); Senatur (opens in a new tab)). It is on the way to Itauguá and Caacupé, so it barely lengthens the day.
Which paperwork is on you?
- ID card: Paraguayans can enter Mercosur and associated countries (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador) with their cédula; for Brazil and Argentina it must be less than 10 years old (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).
- Passport: issued by the Police Identification Department. In March 2025 it cost G. 240,000, cash only, and the head office (Avenida Boggiani at RI3 Ytororó, Asunción) took applications from 6:00 to 22:00 every day (ABC Color, 2025 (opens in a new tab)).
- Many agencies quote the trip, but passports and visas are your job. Check expiry dates before paying the deposit.
What should the quote say?
Ask both agencies for the same trip (dates, number of people, departure from Asunción) and get in writing:
- What is and isn't included: tickets, luggage, transfers, hotel and meals, tours, travel assistance; taxes and card fees listed separately.
- Total price and payment terms: the supplier must state the price including taxes and how it is paid (Law 1334/98, art. 15 (opens in a new tab)).
- Instalments: if they finance, the cash price, the rate, the instalments and the total (Sedeco via ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
- Cancellation: what they refund, and when, if you or the operator cancel.
How to pay and where to complain
Ask for an invoice (factura) for the deposit and every payment (Sedeco via ABC Color (opens in a new tab)) and, if you can, pay by transfer or card so there is a record. Keep vouchers, booking codes and chats until you are home. If the agency doesn't deliver, complain in writing first; if there is no answer, Sedeco, the consumer protection office, takes complaints through its web form and the free line 0800 11 88 99 (Hoy, 2026 (opens in a new tab)).
