For a family day in Capiatá, the best plan is the Ciclovía Municipal, the city's main park, with the Parque Gastronómico right across the street for lunch, plus a visit to the Museo Mitológico Ramón Elías, where kids meet Guaraní legends such as the Pombero, Kurupí and Jasy Jateré. If you are around on 2 February, add the Virgen de la Candelaria festival. Here is each place, where it is and how to build the day.

Parks and bike paths for running around

Ciclovía Municipal. Capiatá's main park and cycle path: about 2 hectares with several sports courts (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Bring bikes or a ball; this is where kids burn off energy. Go in the morning or late afternoon when the sun eases off.

Academia Militar cycle path. A stretch of about 1,300 metres beside Route D070, the road from Capiatá to Areguá. It is straight, good for younger kids practising on bikes.

Where to eat as a family: Parque Gastronómico

The Parque Gastronómico sits opposite the Ciclovía Municipal and gathers the city's main restaurants and bars. According to its Instagram (opens in a new tab), its Instagram says it opens daily from 17:00, so it is a dinner plan rather than lunch. With kids the advantage is simple: eat there and walk straight back to the park without the car. Weekend evenings are busier, so go early for a quieter table.

Museum and culture: Guaraní myths

Museo Mitológico Ramón Elías. On Route PY02 (Mariscal Estigarribia), a few metres off the road, open since 1979. It has three rooms: Paraguayan mythology, with figures of the Pombero, Kurupí, Jasy Jateré, Ao Ao, Luisón, Moñái and Teju Jagua; colonial religious art, with carved wooden saints; and history, with objects from the Triple Alliance and Chaco wars (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).

With small children, tell them about the characters beforehand: some figures can scare the youngest. Call ahead to confirm opening hours.

Plaza, church and the Candelaria festival

Plaza Central. On Route PY02 opposite the Municipalidad, where city events are held. Check the municipality's social media for weekend activities.

Parroquia Virgen de la Candelaria. Capiatá's main church. The first wooden church dates from 1761 and the current façade from 1842.

Candelaria festival (2 February). The patron saint's day brings a procession, a kermés (fair with games and food) and a produce market. It is the best date to go with kids who like fair games and food. Crowds are large, so park further away and walk.

For a weekend: Los Lagos

Los Lagos Resort Hotel. A hotel in Capiatá with lagoons, pools and sports courts, rated four stars by Senatur in 2026 (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). Useful for a night away without going far from Asunción. Ask whether they take day visitors and which activities suit your children's ages.

A day in Capiatá with kids

  • Morning: Ciclovía Municipal, bikes or ball games until 11.
  • Lunch: in the centre along PY02 (the Parque Gastronómico only opens at 17:00).
  • Hottest hours: Museo Mitológico Ramón Elías, indoors.
  • Sunset: Plaza Central or the Academia Militar path for a last ride, then dinner at the Parque Gastronómico.

Getting to Capiatá

Capiatá is about 20 km from Asunción, between Route PY02 and departmental Route D027. PY02 is the main access and runs through the city centre, so a single crash can block traffic (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)): leave with time to spare.
