Entertainment in Capiatá comes down to four places: the Museo Mitológico Ramón Elías for an unusual afternoon, the Cooperativa Capiatá sports hall for concerts and basketball, Estadio Erico Galeano for football, and the Parque Gastronómico food park opposite the Ciclovía Municipal to finish with dinner. On 2 February the Candelaria festival fills the centre. For a cinema, the nearest is in San Lorenzo, on the same Route PY02.

An afternoon at the myth museum

The Museo Mitológico Ramón Elías is on Route PY02 (Mariscal Estigarribia), about 19 km from Asunción (Visit Paraguay (opens in a new tab)). It opened in 1979 and has three rooms: Paraguayan mythology, with figures of the Pombero, Kurupí, Jasy Jateré, Luisón and Moñái; colonial religious art with carved wooden saints; and objects from the War of the Triple Alliance and the Chaco War (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).

  • Why go: it's the one thing in Capiatá you won't find anywhere else, and it's indoors, good for the hottest hours.
  • Tip: call ahead to confirm opening hours, and if you bring small kids, tell them who the characters are before you go in.

Concerts, festivals and basketball: the Cooperativa hall

Cooperativa Capiatá opened an indoor arena for about 2,100 people at its headquarters in December 2023, with a festival featuring Los Ojeda and Grupo Generación on opening night (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). It also hosts basketball and futsal (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), and in 2025 it was a venue for South American League basketball games (Prensa Mercosur (opens in a new tab)).

  • How to find out what's on: the co-op posts its line-up on social media; buy tickets early when a well-known band is playing.

Football and motor racing

  • Estadio Erico Galeano: the city's largest stadium, holding about 15,000 people (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). A match makes a good Sunday plan; check the fixture list first.
  • Autódromo Rubén Dumot (formerly Aratirí): racing was suspended indefinitely in November 2024 and a move to another city was announced (Hoy (opens in a new tab)). Don't go without checking whether any event is scheduled.

Dates that bring the city out

What about the cinema?

Capiatá has no cinema of its own. The nearest is San Lorenzo Shopping, on PY02 around km 15, with a food court and cinema screens (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab); Infonegocios, 2017 (opens in a new tab)); check its social media for showtimes before you set off. It's the same road towards Asunción; at rush hour a single crash can block a lane (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)), so leave extra time if you have tickets for a screening.
