In Capiatá, a night out revolves around the Parque Gastronómico, the food park opposite the Ciclovía Municipal that brings together the city's main restaurants and bars. For live shows, check what's on at the Cooperativa Capiatá's sports hall; and for a proper beer-bar night, there's Kalafatis in neighbouring Itauguá or the bar strip in central San Lorenzo.
Where is the action in Capiatá?
Parque Gastronómico Capiatá. Opened on 21 December 2023 opposite the Ciclovía Municipal, it gathers the city's main restaurants and bars (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). According to its Instagram (opens in a new tab), it opens Monday to Sunday from 17:00 and takes table bookings by WhatsApp.
- Best for: groups who all want something different, couples, and pre-birthday drinks.
- Tip: on Friday or Saturday, book if you're more than six. A walk around the park opposite (about 2 hectares with sports courts, per Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)) before dinner is the local routine.
Are there shisha bars in Capiatá?
Before you pick one, know the rule: since Decree 4624 of 2021 there are no enclosed smoking areas in bars, pubs and restaurants; smoking and vaping are allowed only outdoors, where people are not crowded together and non-smokers don't have to pass (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). If you want shisha, ask whether the venue has an open-air terrace or patio.
Concert nights: the Cooperativa's sports hall
In December 2023 the Cooperativa Capiatá opened a sports hall for about 2,100 people at its club grounds, launched with a festival featuring Los Ojeda, Grupo Generación, Talento de Barrio and La Retrocumbia (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). It also hosts basketball and futsal (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Follow the cooperative's social media for dates and buy early when a well-known band is on.
Want a real bar? Itauguá and San Lorenzo
Capiatá borders Itauguá to the east and San Lorenzo to the west (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), and plenty of people head there.
- Kalafatis Bar (Itauguá): a café-bar serving breakfast and lunch by day that switches to sharing platters, burgers, cocktails and beer at night; it draws people from Capiatá, San Lorenzo and Areguá (Infonegocios, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). Its Instagram (opens in a new tab) is still active in 2026; check hours and live music there.
- Central San Lorenzo: has a strip of draught-beer and music bars (La Nación, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). In a police operation there, three venues measured 86–90 decibels against a 55 dB residential limit, and of 22 people held, 13 had no ID and 7 were drinking in the street. Carry your ID and keep the drinks indoors.
The biggest night of the year: 2 February
On 2 February Capiatá honours its patron saint, the Virgen de la Candelaria, with a procession, a kermesse and a products fair (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). It's the night with the most people out; if you drive, park well away from the centre.
How do you get home?
- Distance: Capiatá is about 23 km from Asunción, and Ruta PY02 and D027 are the main roads (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Don't count on buses in the small hours; use a ride-hailing app or agree on a driver.
- Drink-driving: zero tolerance. 0.200–0.250 mg/l on the breath is a serious offence, 0.251–0.399 a very serious one, and 0.400 or more is a criminal matter referred to prosecutors (ABC Color, 2021 (opens in a new tab)).
- Payment: 7 in 10 electronic payments are by QR (ABC Color, 2026 (opens in a new tab)); bring some cash for small stalls and festival entry.
