In this guide
For a night out in Capiatá, the go-to spot is the Parque Gastronómico, the food park facing the Ciclovía Municipal that brings together the city's main restaurants and bars. For something livelier, there are festivals and games at the Cooperativa Capiatá sports hall or a match at Estadio Erico Galeano. Here is where to go for each plan and how to handle Route PY02.
Where to eat and have a drink
- Parque Gastronómico Capiatá: a food park opposite the Ciclovía Municipal, home to the city's main restaurants and bars (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Its Instagram (opens in a new tab) places it on Route 2 at km 23, open daily from 17:00 according to its Instagram (check before you go). Best for a group that can't agree: everyone picks a stall and shares a table. Go from sunset, when the heat drops.
- Los Lagos Resort Hotel: a hotel with lagoons and pools, rated four stars by Senatur in 2026 (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). It is more a daytime or weekend plan than a night out; ask whether non-guests can visit.
What to do before or after dinner
- Ciclovía Municipal: the city's main park, about 2 hectares with sports courts, right across from the Parque Gastronómico. A walk or a kickabout before eating is the classic plan.
- Plaza Central: on Route PY02 in front of the municipal building, where local events are held. Check the municipality's social media for weekend events.
- Military Academy cycle path: 1,300 metres beside Route D070 toward Areguá, for an evening walk or run.
Where to find shows, festivals and sport
- Cooperativa Capiatá sports hall: an indoor arena for about 2,100 people, opened in 2023 at the cooperative's clubhouse, used for basketball, futsal and volleyball (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). It hosts festivals and concerts, and in 2025 it staged South American basketball league games (Prensa Mercosur (opens in a new tab)). Follow the cooperative's social media for the programme.
- Estadio Erico Galeano: the city's largest stadium, holding about 15,000. A football match makes a good Sunday plan; buy tickets early for big games.
- Autódromo Rubén Dumot: the city's race track (the former Aratirí), for motorsport fans. Competitions were suspended indefinitely in November 2024 (Hoy (opens in a new tab)), so check the Touring club's calendar before going.
Which dates fill Capiatá?
- Feast of the Virgen de la Candelaria, 2 February: the city's patron saint is celebrated with a procession, a kermesse and a produce fair (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). It is the busiest night of the year in the centre, around the Virgen de la Candelaria parish church, whose current façade dates from 1842.
- Cooperative festivals: in December 2023, for its 40th anniversary, the cooperative held a big festival with Los Ojeda and Grupo Generación (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)).
Any daytime plan worth adding?
If you set off early, add the Ramón Elías Mythology Museum, on Route Mariscal Estigarribia (PY02), about 19 km from Asunción. Its rooms show the creatures of Guaraní mythology, such as the Pombero, Kurupí and Jasy Jateré, Franciscan and Jesuit sacred art, and objects from Paraguay's wars (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). It is a short visit that kids and out-of-town guests love. Check opening hours before you go.
Getting there and back without hassle
- Route PY02: Capiatá is about 20 km from Asunción and the highway carries the shops, the municipal building and the Plaza Central. It jams at rush hour, and one crash is enough to block the lane toward Asunción, as happened in 2026 (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). Coming from the capital on a Friday, leave before 18:00 or after 20:00.
- Routes D027 and D070: these lead to the southern neighbourhoods and to Areguá. If you live on that side, check your shortest route on the map before joining PY02.
- Payment: carry some cash as well as a card, especially for small food-park stalls.
