Sunday services and hours in Asunción: malls, banks and SPI

On a Sunday in Asunción the malls, their supermarkets and food courts stay open, while bank branches and municipal counters close. For money, the Central Bank's SPI instant transfers run as usual; for city taxes and fines, pay through a payment network or online banking, or leave it for Monday.

Which malls open on Sunday, and when?

delSol, on Aviadores del Chaco at Profesora Delia González (delSol⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠; InfoNegocios⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠), does not post Sunday hours on its website, so message or call before you cross town. Inside one centre, the supermarket opens before the shops and the food court closes after them.

Groceries and pharmacies

For a Sunday shop, a mall supermarket is the safest bet: Paseo La Galería's opens at 07:00. Neighbourhood branches vary by chain; see supermarkets in Asunción and Sunday hours. For medicine, look for an on-duty or 24-hour pharmacy as explained in our Asunción pharmacy guide.

Banks and transfers: what still works

• Branches: no counter service on Sunday; anything that needs a signature or a teller is a Monday-to-Friday job.
• Transfers: SPI runs 24/7, holidays included, for amounts up to ₲10,000,000 (BCP⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). The cap rose from 5 to 10 million in March 2026 (La Nación⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). Larger or foreign-currency transfers are processed Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 17:30.
• QR: pay in shops and food courts straight from your banking app.

City paperwork: not on Sunday, but you can pay

Municipal service centres open Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 16:00, and according to the city only Centro Municipal Nº 5 "Koeti" (Oliva near Independencia Nacional, by Plaza de la Democracia) opens on Saturdays, 07:30 to 11:30 (ABC Color, 2026⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). Taxes and fines can still be paid on a Sunday through Aquí Pago, Pago Express, Bancard's Pago Móvil or your bank's online banking (ABC Color, 2026⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). Licences and anything needing ID wait for Monday.

Getting around on Sunday

• Bus: Gs. 3,400 with air conditioning, Gs. 2,300 without, paid with a JAHA or Más card (Wikivoyage⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). Allow extra time between stops.
• At night: Búho night buses run 22:00 to 3:30 on four lines: B1 to San Lorenzo, B2 to Limpio, B3 to Ñemby and B4 to Luque (Última Hora, 2026⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠).
• Costanera: on Sundays and holidays the bay-side lane closes to cars and becomes a walking space (Wikipedia⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠).

A Sunday that works
