To go out in Ciudad del Este, head for two areas: Avenida del Lago, facing Lago de la República, and Avenida Campo Vía in Área 3, which together form the city's dining hub (La Nación, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). For Arab food go to Boquerón, and if you have just finished shopping downtown, a mall food court sorts out dinner without crossing the city. Below: the plan by area, named places and how to get back.
Which area suits your night?
- Avenida del Lago: bars overlooking Lago de la República, beer gardens and live music, including pagode and Brazilian artists; some open only Wednesday to Saturday or at weekends (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). Start here around sunset.
- Avenida Campo Vía (Área 3): bar-restaurants with DJs and shows, plus open-air places with a kids' corner, handy for groups with different tastes (same source).
- Boquerón: Arab restaurants, some with hookah, and bars with live bands (ABC Color, 2020 (opens in a new tab)).
- Downtown near the Friendship Bridge: better for an early dinner than a late night (same source).
Bars change names and hours quickly. Check the venue's Instagram before you go to see whether it opens that day and who is playing.
Before dinner: the lake and the waterfront
- Lago de la República: a few blocks from downtown, with a 4 km walking and cycling loop and an amphitheatre used for events (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). Walk it at dusk, then eat on Avenida del Lago.
- Costanera Ñande Renda: at Km 8 Acaray on the Acaray lake, with an artificial beach, amphitheatre, skatepark and beach-volleyball courts (same source). A summer afternoon plan before heading back into town.
Where to eat: named places
Each of these appears in two independent sources. Book or check hours before going.
- Ravello Ristorante: Italian cooking on Avenida Rogelio Benítez near Mariscal Estigarribia, in Boquerón (ABC Color, 2024 (opens in a new tab); Tripadvisor (opens in a new tab)). Good for a quiet dinner for two.
- Eleven Risto & Grill: a grill on Calle Niños de Acosta Ñu serving breakfast, lunch and dinner (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab); Tripadvisor (opens in a new tab)). ABC mentioned live shows and a children's area.
- SAX restaurant: inside the SAX department store on Avenida San Blas, with French food, sushi and Arab dishes (ABC Color, 2024 (opens in a new tab); Tripadvisor (opens in a new tab)). Easy if your shopping day ends downtown.
- Lago Shopping food court: on Monseñor Rodríguez at Concejal Romero, open Sunday to Friday 11:00–23:00 and Saturday until midnight, per its official site (opens in a new tab); the city's first Juan Valdez opened there (InfoNegocios, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). Air-conditioned, no booking needed.
- Madero at Shopping China: the Brazilian burger chain picked the Shopping China food court for its first Paraguayan branch (InfoNegocios, 2025 (opens in a new tab); Prensa Mercosur, 2025 (opens in a new tab)).
Special nights: Itaipú lit up and New Year's Eve
- Itaipú Monumental Lighting: the light show on the dam runs on Fridays and Saturdays with advance booking by phone on (061) 599-8040, by email to cturistico@itaipu.gov.py or through the Ib-tur app (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). Check-in is at the Visitor Reception Centre in Hernandarias, about 15 km away. It is closed on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January (La Nación, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). Have dinner back in CDE afterwards.
- Réveillon by the lake: the municipality throws the New Year's Eve party at Lago de la República; the 2024–25 edition had a live-music stage, midnight fireworks, free entry and closed Concejal Romero, Mariscal Estigarribia and del Lago avenues (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). If you are eating nearby that night, book and arrive on foot.
Who you will meet out
According to the local bar and restaurant association, bar crowds are mostly Paraguayan, while about 90% of nightclub-goers are Brazilian, largely students living in CDE and Presidente Franco (La Nación, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). For conversation, pick a bar early; for dancing, expect funk and Brazilian music.
Paying and getting back
- Payment: since February 2024, Bancard merchants can accept Pix (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)), and reais and dollars are taken in the shopping district at rates that vary by shop (Western Union (opens in a new tab)). Ask before ordering.
- Getting back: the association says there is no public transport at night and people use ride-hailing apps (La Nación, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). Order the car from inside the venue.
