Places to go out in Limpio: river sunsets, PY03 and festivals

Going out in Limpio works best by time of day: at sunset, the river at Piquete Cué, with canoe trips among the giant water lilies and past Castillo El Peñón; in the evening, dinner on Ruta PY03 at Plaza Norte; and on Sundays or feast days, the town centre around Plaza Silvestre Aveiro. For something bigger, the July Expo is next door in Mariano Roque Alonso, and the Búho B2 night bus brings you back from Asunción.

At sunset: a canoe at Piquete Cué

• Jardín del Yacaré Yrupé. At Hernandarias and Calle 18 in Piquete Cué; there is an entry fee, parking and kayak or boat hire, and canoe guides work from 06:30 to 19:00 with the safety gear the Naval Prefecture requires (Bienvenido a Paraguay⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). The giant leaves of the yacaré yrupé (Victoria cruziana) usually appear between December and January (Wikipedia⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠), and the same guide says the flowers open at dusk with a pineapple scent, so the last hour of light is the time to go.
• Take nothing: the plant is protected and picking leaves or flowers is illegal collection (MADES⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠).
• Castillo El Peñón. A 1932 lighthouse on a rock in the Paraguay River, in the same area (Wikipedia⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). Ask the canoe guides whether the trip reaches it.
• Tip: bring repellent and dry clothes; PY03 is close by for dinner afterwards.

In the evening: dinner on Ruta PY03

Plaza Norte, opposite the Abasto Norte market, is Limpio's first big mall: it opened on 19 July 2025 (ABC Color⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠), has parking for 320 cars and 30 motorbikes (ABC Color⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠) and marked its first anniversary in July 2026 with the World Cup final on a giant screen in the food area and live music for Friendship Day (Infonegocios⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠).

• Sit-down options: Pizza Hut, one of the opening brands (ABC Color⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠), has a dining room, delivery and drive-through there (Infonegocios⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠).
• Tip: check its social media first; events are announced during the week and a big match fills the tables.

Sundays and feast days: the centre

Plaza Silvestre Aveiro is the main square and where town events take place, facing the Parroquia San José, whose façade dates from 1850 (Wikipedia⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). Saint Joseph is Limpio's patron, and his feast day is 19 March (Wikipedia⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). The church grounds also hold the country's first ecological sanctuary (Wikipedia⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠), a quiet walk after Mass.

Dates worth noting

• March, San José: the patron saint's feast in the centre.
• July, the Expo in Mariano Roque Alonso: the big agricultural and industrial fair run by the ARP and UIP. In 2026 it ran from 11 to 26 July, with general entry at G. 25,000, children up to 11 free and Saturday-night shows (ABC Color⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠); La Nación⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠ also places it every July.
• September, Paseo de las Flores: at the Abasto Norte on PY03. In 2026 it ran from 17 to 21 September, 07:00 to 17:00, with free parking and plants from G. 2,000 (ABC Color⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). A morning outing, not a night one.

How to get home without driving

• Búho B2: since 10 December 2025 this night bus links Asunción and Limpio, entering via Avenida San José and PY03 (La Nación⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠); the Búho network runs from 22:00 to 03:30 (Última Hora⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). Useful if you went out in Asunción.
• If you drive: Paraguay has zero tolerance for alcohol at the wheel, and from 0.400 mg/l the case goes to the public prosecutor (ABC Color⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). Pick a driver before you leave.
• In heavy rain: in April 2024 the Itay and Damián streams overflowed and cars were swept away in Piquete Cué (Última Hora⁠⁠ (opens in a new tab)⁠). If storms are forecast, save the river for another day.
