Luque travel guide: how to plan a useful day

A one-day Luque plan with hours: CONMEBOL Museum, historic centre and filigree, Parque Ñu Guasu and options near the airport.

In this guide
  1. Morning: CONMEBOL Museum
  2. Midday: the historic centre on foot
  3. Afternoon: Parque Ñu Guasu
  4. Flying out: eat and wait near the airport
  5. Match night or festival
  6. Getting around Luque

A useful day in Luque has four stops: the CONMEBOL Museum in the morning (free, booking required), the historic centre at midday with the pedestrian street, the shrine and the filigree jewellers, and Parque Ñu Guasu in the afternoon. Everything is close to Silvio Pettirossi airport, about 10 minutes from Asunción (La Nación, 2021 (opens in a new tab)), so the plan works as an outing from the capital or as a way to use a day before or after a flight.

Morning: CONMEBOL Museum

The South American Football Museum sits next to CONMEBOL's headquarters near the airport (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). It holds shirts from Libertadores, Sudamericana and Women's Libertadores champions, plus items from Pelé, Maradona, Di Stéfano, Messi, Garrincha and Zico (La Nación, 2025 (opens in a new tab)).

  • Hours: Monday to Friday 8:00–18:00, Saturday 9:00–12:00 (La Nación, 2025 (opens in a new tab)).
  • Entry: free with advance booking at conmebol.com/museo-conmebol. Book the day before; walk-ins are not admitted.
  • Tip: on a Saturday, go here first, as it closes at noon.

Midday: the historic centre on foot

Park near Plaza General Aquino and walk:

Afternoon: Parque Ñu Guasu

One of the largest parks in the area, with tennis, basketball and football courts and the Las Residentas monument (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). It has walking, running and cycling circuits, shaded areas, toilets, cold-water fountains every kilometre and a first-aid post; on the 1 May 2025 holiday it opened 5:00–21:30 (Hoy, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). Go late afternoon when the heat drops and bring water.

Flying out: eat and wait near the airport

Plaza Madero shopping centre is on Autopista Silvio Pettirossi at Torokay, on the way to the airport (La Nación, 2021 (opens in a new tab)). It opened with evening restaurants, about 300 parking spaces and a 24-hour supermarket (Hoy, 2021 (opens in a new tab)). It is the easy place to have dinner or kill time before check-in without heading back into town.

Getting around Luque

The main roads are Avenida General Elizardo Aquino, Autopista Ñu Guasu and Avenida Las Residentas (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). The museum and Plaza Madero are on the airport side, the historic centre further in, and Ñu Guasu along the motorway of the same name, so a car or ride-hailing app covers the day easily. Carry cash for small shops and stalls in the centre, or ask first whether they take QR payments.
