For a night out in Luque, start at the Peatonal Histórica on Calle Mariscal López, with its places to eat and street performers; on the Autopista Silvio Pettirossi, on the way to the airport, is the new Lido Bar. Add a Sportivo Luqueño match or a patron-saint festival and the night is planned; for clubbing until dawn, Asunción is right next door.
Where to start the night in central Luque
Peatonal Histórica. This is the stretch of Mariscal López between Teniente Herrero Bueno and Rosario, opened in 1999, with period houses, places to eat and street performers (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). The national culture secretariat (SNC) ruled it should be fully pedestrian (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). In December the municipality decorates it with karanda'y palm arrangements and holds live music for the Christmas opening (ABC Color, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). Tip: park on a side street and walk; it is the easiest meeting point to start the night.
Something before or after a flight
Lido Bar Luque. The Asunción classic, founded in 1953, opened on Monday 21 September 2026 on the Autopista Silvio Pettirossi near Confederación Paraguaya, on the airport access road (Infonegocios (opens in a new tab)). Go for empanadas, sopa paraguaya, chipa guasu or fish soup (Infonegocios (opens in a new tab)). It is not a cocktail bar: it is where to eat good traditional food before a night out or after landing.
Football night at the Feliciano Cáceres
Estadio Feliciano Cáceres, home of Sportivo Luqueño, is the fourth-largest stadium in Paraguayan football and hosted Copa América 1999 matches (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). On big match nights the area is busy an hour and a half before kick-off, with food and soft-drink sellers on every corner, and police close streets with barriers (Última Hora, 2015 (opens in a new tab)). Tip: arrive early, park further out and save the bar for afterwards, once the cordon lifts.
Festivals and fairs that change the plan
- Virgen del Rosario (7 October): Luque's patron saint, celebrated at the Santuario Virgen del Rosario (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Celebrations start weeks earlier with the "Bandera jere", a procession through downtown with folk groups, schools and firefighters (ABC Color, 2023 (opens in a new tab)); during the novena there is a rosary at 18:00 and Mass at 19:00 (ABC Color, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). Downtown gets packed on those days, so go on foot.
- Expo Luque: the city's yearly fair, with craft, food and games stands. In 2017 it ran in September at the municipal grounds with free entry (Última Hora, 2017 (opens in a new tab)). Check the municipality's social media for each year's dates.
Getting there and around
Luque borders Asunción and is home to Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). From Asunción you come in on the Autopista Silvio Pettirossi or Avenida General Elizardo Aquino (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). If you are drinking, book a ride-hailing car home rather than driving.
