Going out in Caaguazú is more about day and weekend plans than nightlife: a match at the roofed stadium, padel with friends in Las Mercedes, a pool day at Techapyrã or Aqua Landia, or an afternoon on a beach at Lake Yguazú. For a longer night, Coronel Oviedo is about 50 km away on the same Ruta PY02.
Plans in town
- Estadio municipal de Caaguazú. It holds 7,000 people and is the only fully roofed stadium in the country, per La Nación (opens in a new tab). National futsal and handball championships are played here: check the fixtures and go with friends.
- Coliseo de la Gobernación. Another major futsal venue; a good plan for a match night.
- Iglesia Inmaculada Concepción and Plaza Bartolomé Aquino. The main parish church, built in 1965 by Franciscans, and the central plaza are where people walk and meet before dinner.
- Complejo San José. In Las Mercedes, inside the urban area: two indoor padel courts, a padel school, football and volleyball courts, a sport-fishing pond and barbecue shelters (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). Good for meeting people or a group outing.
Pools and the outdoors nearby
- Complejo Techapyrã. In San José Apeputy, about 3 km off PY02 via calle Jacú: a "Jurassic park" with a train and dinosaurs, a zip line of about 200 m, a suspension bridge, a pool and a buffet restaurant. In 2021 it opened daily 8:30–18:30, with adult entry at G. 35,000 (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
- Aqua Landia Delfines Park. On Ruta PY13, 1 km from the km 185 roundabout (Toro Blanco): a big pool, pirate ships, an aquarium, restaurant and snack bar, 8:30–18:00 (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
- Taita Vy'aha. On Ruta PY13 in San Miguel Takurú: two pools, a stream with a small beach, a forest trail and volleyball courts. In 2022 a day pass was G. 30,000 (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). A good spot for a long picnic.
Beaches on Lake Yguazú
For sand and water, Lake Yguazú is in neighbouring districts of the department:
- Campamento Lago La O. In Satî, Raúl Arsenio Oviedo district: beach, volleyball court, family barbecue shelters and camping. Day entry ran 8:00–20:00 (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
- Parque turístico Natura. In Tembiaporã, Ykua Pytã area, about 9 km from that town: beach, thatched shelters and camping, with sunrise and sunset over the lake. It opened Tuesday to Sunday.

Culture and events
- "Caaguazú Lee" International Book Fair. Run by the departmental government since 2003 (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). A calm plan, and a good one for students.
- National Short Film Competition. Organised by the Sociedad Cultural de Caaguazú since 2005; follow its social pages for screening dates.
For a longer night: Coronel Oviedo
- Festival del Ajo. In early October at Estadio El Cerrito in Coronel Oviedo, with folk music and guest artists from 21:00 (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)).
- Getting home: Uber runs UberX, Uber Flash and Uber Moto in Caaguazú (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). If you take the highway, agree on a driver first: police alcohol checks are zero-tolerance.
- Weather: summers pass 40 °C and winters can drop to 0 °C, so pick a pool or an indoor plan by season.
