Entertainment in Caaguazú revolves around live sport, a few cultural events through the year and the parks on the edge of town: a futsal match in the roofed stadium, the "Caaguazú Lee" book fair, a day at the Techapyrã theme park or an afternoon at Lake Yguazú. For a big festival, Coronel Oviedo is about 50 km away on Ruta PY02.

What can you watch live in town?

Futsal and handball in the roofed stadium. Caaguazú has a 7,000-seat municipal stadium, the only fully roofed one in Paraguay, which hosts national futsal and handball championships (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). Being covered, it works in rain or summer sun. Check the federation fixtures or municipal social media and arrive early for finals.

Coliseo de la Gobernación. The city's other major futsal venue, per the same report, and a good weeknight option.

Football at Estadio Bosque Grande. Since 2024 it has been home to Club Deportivo Caaguazú and is used by other local teams too (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). A Sunday match is the cheapest plan of the week.

Culture: book fair, short films and the patron saint's feast

The plaza is also the everyday meeting point: a good place to start an evening and grab food nearby.

Theme parks: Techapyrã and Aqua Landia

Techapyrã is about 3 km off Ruta PY02, via Calle Jacú. It has a dinosaur park you tour by mini train, a zip line, a suspension bridge and pools for adults and kids (ABC Color, 2021 (opens in a new tab); Infonegocios, 2021 (opens in a new tab)). In 2021 entry was G. 35,000 for adults and G. 25,000 for children, according to both reports. Prices and hours may have changed, so message before you go.

  • In hot weather, arrive at opening time and bring sunscreen, flip-flops and dry clothes.
  • It's outside the centre: go by car or Uber.

Aqua Landia Delfines Park. A family water park in the Caaguazú district, with pools, an aquarium, the giant insect figures of "Bichitos Landia", a restaurant and cabins (ABC Color, 2024 (opens in a new tab); InfoNegocios, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). Call ahead to confirm hours and prices.

A day at Lake Yguazú

Lake Yguazú, in neighbouring districts of the department, has several day-use complexes with beaches, barbecue shelters and camping (ABC Color, 2024 (opens in a new tab)). It's the classic summer outing. Find the nearest complex on your map, check it's open that day and take a cool box with water and food for the grill.

A big festival: Coronel Oviedo

Festival del Ajo (Garlic Festival). Held in early October at Estadio El Cerrito in Coronel Oviedo, with folk music and guest artists from 21:00 (Última Hora (opens in a new tab); ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). Coronel Oviedo is 132 km from Asunción on the same PY02 (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), about 50 km before Caaguazú coming from the capital.

Getting around and when to go

  • Transport: UberX, Uber Flash and Uber Moto operate in Caaguazú (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). For Techapyrã or the lake, use a car or Uber.
  • Drinking and driving: the highway patrol (Patrulla Caminera) applies zero tolerance (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). If you head to Coronel Oviedo at night, agree on a driver first.
  • Weather: summer highs reach about 42 °C and winter lows hit 0 °C (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). In summer, pool or lake by day and the roofed stadium at night; in winter, indoor matches and events.
