With kids in Lambaré, the most complete outing is the Costanera Sur: playgrounds, a bike lane, sand volleyball courts and food stalls by the river, with Cerro Lambaré at the end. For the rest of the weekend there's the main square and the Casa de la Cultura, the Eco Parque Felicidad, and indoor options like bowling and the shopping centres on Avenida Cacique Lambaré.

What to do with kids by the river

  • Costanera Sur. An 8.1 km riverside road from Avenida Colón in Asunción to Cerro Lambaré, with wide pavements, a bike lane and a linear park of about 1,000 m with playgrounds, sand volleyball courts, an amphitheatre and 13 food outlets (Última Hora, 2024 (opens in a new tab)). Arrive an hour before sunset, bring bikes or scooters, water and, in summer, insect repellent.
  • Cerro Lambaré. The hilltop has a viewpoint with the Monumento a la Paz Victoriosa and a statue of the chief Lambaré. It's in Asunción's Jukyty neighbourhood, right on the Lambaré border, and visits have grown since the Costanera opened (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Go in daylight: for years the site was neglected and had safety problems (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)).
  • Puerto Pabla municipal beach. A small beach on the Paraguay River, good for fishing and birdwatching (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). It's a spot to sit with tereré while the kids watch the river; check municipal notices before letting them swim.

What's in central Lambaré?

You can walk it in a morning:

  • Plaza Central. Opposite the Nuestra Señora del Rosario parish, the oldest church in the municipality; next to the town hall stands a black obelisk honouring local soldiers (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).
  • Casa de la Cultura Profesor Héctor Portillo. An old mansion turned museum, behind the town hall (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). A good add-on to the square for school-age kids.
  • Monumento a la Burrerita. The statue, unveiled in 1987, honours the women who carried goods by donkey (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). A quick photo stop and a story to tell the kids.

Where can they run and play?

Eco Parque Felicidad. An ecological park on the banks of the Lambaré stream, with natural areas and sports pitches (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). It's the place for older kids to burn energy or for a family kickabout in the late afternoon, once the heat drops. Bring a ball, water and hats.

What if it rains or it's too hot?

Where to eat as a family

Without a fixed favourite, choose by where you are:

  • On the Costanera Sur: the 13 outlets in the linear park, to eat by the river after playing.
  • On Cacique Lambaré: the Century Plaza food court or Paseo Cerro Alto, with parking sorted.
  • On Avenida Luis María Argaña: Paseo del Totto, another centre with food outlets (Infonegocios (opens in a new tab)).

With small children, eat early: a hungry child won't wait long for a table.
