Entertainment in Limpio: river trips, the mall and local festivals

Fun in Limpio means the river (canoes at Piquete Cué and the Río Salado), the Plaza Norte mall on Route PY03 and the town-centre festivals.

Entertainment in Limpio comes in three forms: the river, with canoe trips among giant water lilies at Piquete Cué and boat rides on the Río Salado; Plaza Norte, the mall on Route PY03, with arcade games and events; and town-centre festivals such as San José in March. For a busier night out, Mariano Roque Alonso is next door and Asunción about 19 km away, with a night bus back.

On the river: canoes, giant water lilies and the Río Salado

  • Jardín del Yacaré Yrupé (Piquete Cué). Natural lagoons where the giant leaves of the Santa Cruz water lily (Victoria cruziana, yacaré yrupé in Guaraní) usually look best between December and January (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). It is at Hernandarias and Calle 18; entry is paid, there is parking and kayak or boat hire, and canoe guides wait for visitors from 06:30 to 19:00 with the safety gear the Naval Prefecture requires (Bienvenido a Paraguay (opens in a new tab)). The same source warns the plants do not appear every year, so check social media before you go.
  • Take nothing. The plant is protected and picking leaves or flowers is illegal (MADES (opens in a new tab)).
  • Castillo El Peñón. A 1932 lighthouse on a rock in the Paraguay River near Piquete Cué (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). It looks best from the water: ask the canoe guides to include it.
  • Río Salado. The stream carrying water from Lake Ypacaraí to the Paraguay River, known for fishing and boat trips (same source). Go in the morning, when it is cooler.

Plaza Norte: games, big screen and events

Limpio's first large mall opened on 19 July 2025 on Route PY03, opposite the Abasto Norte market, with the Sky Games arcade among its first tenants (ABC Color, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). For its first anniversary in July 2026 it showed the 19 July final on a big screen in the food court, ran a holiday camp with games and workshops for kids and announced live music for Friendship Day (InfoNegocios, 2026 (opens in a new tab)).

  • Good for: an afternoon with kids at the arcade, watching a match with friends, or dinner with air conditioning and parking.
  • Tip: follow its social media; events are announced the same week and big matches fill the food court.

Festivals and fairs through the year

  • San José (19 March). Limpio's patron saint; town events take place in Plaza Silvestre Aveiro, the central square (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).
  • Festival del Karanda'y Renda. It celebrates the karanday palm-leaf craft behind Limpio's famous hats (same source). The town also has a municipal ballet of the same name.
  • Paseo de las Flores at Abasto Norte. In 2026 it ran 17 to 21 September, 07:00 to 17:00, by the entrance on PY03, with free parking and plants from G. 2,000 (ABC Color, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). Dates change every year.

Next door in Mariano Roque Alonso

Mariano Roque Alonso borders Limpio, so a short drive opens more options:

Getting around and getting home at night

Limpio is about 19 km from Asunción on paved Route PY03 (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). If you go out in Asunción, the Búho B2 night bus has linked the capital with Limpio since December 2025, via PY03, Mariscal Estigarribia and Avenida San José (La Nación, 2025 (opens in a new tab)); the Búho network runs 22:00 to 03:30 (Última Hora, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). If you drive and drink, let someone else drive: Paraguay has zero tolerance for alcohol at the wheel (ABC Color, 2021 (opens in a new tab)). For the river in summer, bring water, a hat and insect repellent.
