To pick a spa in Asunción, first decide what you want: a massage to work out knots, a sauna and steam circuit, a facial or a whole afternoon of downtime. Then look in an area that suits you (many wellness centres are in Villa Morra and the barrios around it) and get in writing what is included, how long it lasts and the total price before you book.
What kind of spa are you after?
"Spa" in Asunción can mean very different things:
- Urban spa or massage centre: short sessions that fit into an evening after work. Ask which massage styles they offer and whether you can book the same therapist.
- Water and heat circuit: dry sauna, steam, hot tub. Ask whether the circuit is charged separately from the massage and who it is for (men only, women only or mixed).
- Hotel spa: often combines a pool or circuit with treatments charged as extras. Ask whether non-guests can book.
- Facial and body treatments: cleansing, lymphatic drainage, skin or scalp treatments.
If you are looking for a "medical spa" with injectables, laser or fillers, that is no longer a spa: the Paraguayan Society of Aesthetic Medicine says these are medical procedures that must be done by a doctor in a clinic licensed by the Ministry of Health and the Superintendencia de Salud, not in spas or salons (La Nación (opens in a new tab)).
Why are so many spas in Villa Morra?
Villa Morra is a barrio in north-east Asunción, in the La Recoleta district, bounded by Avenida España, Avenida General José de San Martín, Avenida Mariscal López and Avenida Santísimo Sacramento, and known for its strong mix of services, dining and nightlife (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). That has practical upsides:
- You can pair your appointment with lunch or shopping nearby.
- There are more options within a few blocks if your first choice is full.
- To leave relaxed without driving, book a ride-hailing car when you finish.
The downside is traffic. In September 2026 the city was still working on Plan ASU 400 roadworks on San Martín, Mariscal López and España, the same avenues that frame Villa Morra (Municipalidad de Asunción (opens in a new tab)). Leave a buffer so you do not arrive at a massage stressed.
What to ask before booking
Message by WhatsApp or Instagram with the treatment and time you want, and ask for:
- The total price including taxes and the payment method. Paraguay's consumer law (Ley 1334) requires service providers to state this clearly, and any cost not in the quote must be disclosed before it is incurred (Ley 1334/98 (opens in a new tab)).
- What is included: actual massage minutes, sauna or steam access, towels, robe, shower.
- Who the space is for: some centres are men only, some women only, others have couples' rooms. The name does not always tell you; ask.
- Deposit and cancellation policy, in writing.
- Health conditions: mention in your first message if you are pregnant, have high blood pressure, an injury or allergies, and ask whether the treatment is suitable.
Signs a place is properly run
- A visible licence for treatments such as laser hair removal: after closing a centre where a client suffered burns, the Superintendencia de Salud advised checking that aesthetic centres hold a Ministry of Health licence and asked them to display it in the waiting room (Hoy (opens in a new tab)).
- Products with health registration. In October 2026 DINAVISA warned about unregistered cosmetic injectables and asked the public to check a product's registration and origin before any procedure (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
- Visible hygiene: fresh sheets and towels for each client, clean showers and changing rooms.
Paying and gifting a session
- Ask whether they take QR, cards or bank transfer. QR made up 68.1% of electronic payments processed by Bancard in April 2026 (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
- Ask for an invoice (factura): in Paraguay one is due on every sale of goods and services (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
- If you are buying a gift card or a package, get the expiry date and transfer rules in writing. A package only pays off if you will use every session.
Before your appointment
- Arrive a few minutes early so check-in is not rushed.
- Eat light before a massage, and drink water before and after the sauna, especially in the hot months.
- Leave valuables at home and wear comfortable clothes.
