To pick a hair salon in Ciudad del Este, decide on the service first (cut, barber, colour or treatment), then look close to where you live or are staying: downtown (the microcentro), Área 1, Boquerón or the Km 7 area. Check the salon's Instagram for recent work and ask for the final price in writing before any colour job. Saturdays fill up, so go on a weekday if you can.

What service do you need?

Salons are not equally good at everything. Salon owners interviewed by Infonegocios (opens in a new tab) say women mostly book colour and cuts, while men book cuts and barbering. The same report says new salon openings in Asunción, Encarnación and Ciudad del Este grew 15% in three years, so there is choice; the job is filtering.

  • Quick cut or beard trim: a neighbourhood barber is enough, and many take walk-ins.
  • Colour, highlights or bleaching: look for a salon with a colourist and photos of that exact service, not just haircuts.
  • Styling for an event: book days ahead and ask whether they do a trial.

Which part of the city?

Ciudad del Este is long and traffic matters. According to Wikipedia (opens in a new tab), Route PY02 runs through the city with two service roads, Avenida San Blas and Avenida Monseñor Rodríguez, and downtown sits right by the Friendship Bridge, where traffic from Foz do Iguaçu comes in.

  • Downtown (microcentro): handy if you are already shopping, but parking and border traffic make it hard to arrive on time.
  • Área 1, Boquerón, San Blas: residential barrios near the centre, useful if you live there.
  • Km 7 and Ciudad Nueva: the area has grown around the Km 7 viaduct and Avenida Perú, with new buildings, offices and shops, per Infonegocios (opens in a new tab). If you live between Km 7 and Km 10, search there and skip the cross-town drive.

How to check a salon before booking

For many salons Instagram is the main shop window, the Infonegocios report notes. Use it:

  • Look for recent photos of your hair type and the service you want.
  • Message on WhatsApp with a reference photo and ask how long the service takes.
  • Ask who will do your hair: in bigger salons the result depends on the stylist.
  • Notice how fast they reply; slow on a Tuesday means slower on a Saturday.

Saturday is the busiest day in the trade: one salon owner told Infonegocios she sees more than 120 clients that day. For colour or long treatments, a weekday slot gives you more time and less rush.

Price and payment: what to ask first

Paraguay's Consumer Protection Law 1334/98 (opens in a new tab) requires service providers to state the price including taxes and the payment method. If something not in the quote turns out to be needed, they must tell you before doing it. In practice: with long or thick hair, ask whether extra product is charged separately.

On payment:

Botox or fillers at the salon? Skip it

Some salons also offer facial aesthetics. The Paraguayan Society of Aesthetic Medicine says these procedures are a medical act and must be done in a clinic licensed by the Ministry of Health and the Health Superintendency (opens in a new tab), not in hair salons, spas or at home.

In October 2026 the regulator DINAVISA warned about unregistered cosmetic injectables (opens in a new tab) brought in through unauthorised channels. Before any procedure, ask to see the product's health registration and origin. Informal sales can be reported to postcomercializacion@dinavisa.gov.py.

Coming from Brazil or on a shopping trip

If you cross from Foz do Iguaçu, don't leave the appointment for the end of a shopping day: bridge queues eat the time. Book before you cross, keep the reference photo on your phone, and ask on WhatsApp whether someone can serve you in Portuguese or English.
