Entertainment in Ciudad del Este, once the shopping is done, comes down to four things: the cinema at Lago Shopping, the Itaipú dam light show on Friday and Saturday nights, the Lago de la República at sunset and, in early February, the Ecofest anniversary concert at Estadio Antonio Aranda. Here is where each one is, when to go and what to bring.

Where can you see a film?

Cinemark at Lago Shopping. It opened in December 2022 with five digital screens showing 2D and 3D, including a 340-seat XD screen, the city's first; total capacity is over 900 (La Nación, 2022 (opens in a new tab); InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). Buy tickets at cinemark.com.py or in the Cinemark Paraguay app by card; the box office also takes cash.

The mall is on Monseñor Rodríguez at Concejal Romero, and its food court opens Sunday to Friday 11:00–23:00 and until midnight on Saturdays, according to its official site (opens in a new tab). Tip: eat there before the film so you only cross downtown once.

Shows and festivals worth planning around

  • City anniversary and San Blas (3 February). The city marks its founding and its patron saint with a novena at the Catedral San Blas, a procession from downtown and a 7:00 civic ceremony at the founding landmark by the Friendship Bridge (ABC Color, 2026 (opens in a new tab)).
  • Ecofest. The big anniversary concert, held at Estadio Antonio Aranda. In 2025 it ran on Saturday 1 February, gates at 16:00, with Alok as headliner and music until dawn; free sections had tickets handed out at the Tourism Division (Museo El Mensú, City Hall, weekdays 7:00–15:00) and paid sections sold at ecofest.com.py (ABC Color, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). For 2026, now privately organised, the line-up announced Auténticos Decadentes, Kchiporros, Los Bybys and Salamandra, among others (ABC Color, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). Tip: each person could collect up to five free tickets, so pick them up early.
  • Centro Cultural Mangoré. The municipal auditorium on Dr. Guillermina Núñez de Báez near Eugenio A. Garay hosts free galas, such as the Luis Alberto del Paraná centenary concert in April 2026 (Última Hora, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). Check the City Hall's social media for the programme.
  • New Year's Eve at Lago de la República. The city throws its Réveillon by the lake. The 2024–25 edition had a live-music stage, midnight fireworks, free entry and closures on Concejal Romero, Mariscal Estigarribia and Avenida del Lago (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)); the 2026 party was held there too (ABC Color, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). Walk in.

A night at Itaipú: the Iluminación Monumental

The dam is lit up on Friday and Saturday nights. It is free, but you must book by phone on (061) 599-8040, by email at cturistico@itaipu.gov.py or in the Ib-tur app (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). According to ABC (2023), check-in starts at 18:30 at the Visitor Reception Centre in Hernandarias and bookings close on the Thursday of that week (ABC Color, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). Itaipú's attractions close on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January (La Nación, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). Tip: bring ID and head back to Ciudad del Este for dinner afterwards.

By day: lake, beach and waterfalls

  • Lago de la República. A few blocks from downtown, with a 4 km walking and cycling loop and an amphitheatre for events (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). Go early or at sunset.
  • Costanera Ñande Renda (Km 8 Acaray). A man-made beach on Lake Acaray with an amphitheatre, skate park and beach-volleyball courts (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). The summer weekend plan.
  • Saltos del Monday (Presidente Franco). About 10 km away, with falls over 40 m high, viewpoints and a panoramic lift in the municipal park, and a zip line in the private Parque Aventura. In 2022 entry was G. 25,000 for Paraguayans and USD 10 for foreigners, with the lift G. 30,000 extra (Última Hora, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). Bring cash.

Where to eat or drink afterwards

The dining hub is Avenida del Lago, facing the lake, and Avenida Campo Vía in Área 3 (La Nación, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). For Arab food and bars with live bands, head to Boquerón (ABC Color, 2020 (opens in a new tab)). For something quick and air-conditioned, Shopping China opened a new building in December 2025 with a food court that includes Madero, among other chains (Prensa Mercosur, 2025 (opens in a new tab); InfoNegocios, 2025 (opens in a new tab)).
