To budget for life in Capiatá, put transport next to rent: the city is about 23 km from Asunción on Route PY02 (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), and if you work in the capital, fares and time on the road weigh as much as the house. Split your budget into five lines: net income, housing with utilities, transport, health and shopping, and keep a buffer for summer electricity.

What income to plan around

Since 1 July 2026 the minimum wage for unspecified activities is G. 3,044,000 a month, with a daily rate of G. 117,077 (ABC Color (opens in a new tab); IP Paraguay (opens in a new tab)). Employees have 9% deducted for IPS social security (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)): on the minimum wage that's G. 273,960, leaving G. 2,770,040. Use that net figure, not the gross, as the ceiling for fixed costs.

If you'd rather work locally and skip the commute, the municipality runs job fairs at its offices on PY02 (Hoy, 2026 (opens in a new tab)).

Transport: the line people underestimate

  • Bus: in May 2026 fares were still G. 2,300 on conventional buses and G. 3,400 on air-conditioned "diferencial" buses (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). A return trip 22 days a month is 44 fares: about G. 101,200 conventional or G. 149,600 diferencial. Double it if you change buses.
  • Car or motorbike: work out your real daily kilometres with the day's fuel price and your vehicle's consumption, and add parking if you work in central Asunción.
  • Time: PY02 runs right through central Capiatá, and one crash can block the lane towards Asunción (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). If being late costs you money, leave earlier.

Housing and utilities: what to write down

  • Rent: Paraguay has no specific tenancy law. The deposit is usually one month, a contract without a set term is presumed to run one year, and there is no cap on increases (Infonegocios, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). Count the deposit as an upfront cost and get the increase terms in writing.
  • New developments: lots and duplexes are going up along the PY02 corridor, but water, power and sewerage often arrive late to new developments (Infonegocios, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). Before signing, ask which services are already connected and what the connection costs.
  • Streets that flood: in June 2025 a storm left seven blocks of barrio Cañaveral, near the D027, impassable (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)), and in 2022 families in barrio San Jorge were flooded for lack of drainage (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). See the house after rain: a street that floods means taxi days or repairs.
  • Electricity: from late November to March, air conditioning pushes up the ANDE bill. A study presented in July 2026 also recommended raising ANDE's average tariff by up to 39.4% gradually until 2030 (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). On a multi-year lease, leave room in this line.

Where you can save on health

  • Hospital Distrital de Capiatá: public care is free, but during dengue season the emergency department has seen more than 500 patients a day (ABC Color, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). Go early.
  • IPS Campo Vía: if you pay into IPS, Capiatá has emergency care, outpatient clinics by appointment and a pharmacy; in 2026 there were complaints about delays and missing medicines (ABC Color, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). Keep a small amount aside for medicines the IPS pharmacy doesn't have.

Monthly shopping and payments

Free or cheap outings

The Ciclovía Municipal, about 2 hectares with sports courts, and the Plaza Central opposite the town hall are free (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). On 2 February the Virgen de la Candelaria festival brings a procession, church fair and market to the centre. For a family outing, the Museo Mitológico Ramón Elías is on the same PY02 (Visit Paraguay (opens in a new tab)); check hours and entry first.
