In Coronel Oviedo, a family day out is a downtown plaza in the morning, lunch at the shopping centre's food court and, if you want more, a farm with animals a few kilometres out on PY02 or PY08. For a full day, the water parks and leisure complexes of Caaguazú department are within an hour.
Plazas and spaces in town

In 2025 the municipality announced that Plaza José Segundo Decoud and Plaza San Isidro would be remodelled as accessible, family-oriented spaces (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). Go early or late afternoon; midday sun is harsh.
- Casa de la Cultura and Espacio Cultural GOBAU. GOBAU hosts the Filarmónica Ovetense's activities; check the programme if your kids like music.
Shopping and food with kids
- D Shopping Coronel Oviedo. The city's first mall has a food court for about 250 people. When it opened in 2014 it ran 9:00–21:00 daily, with the food court open until midnight (Infonegocios (opens in a new tab)). A good backup when it rains or is too hot.
Farms with animals near Coronel Oviedo
- Granja Ecoturística Yvambopí. About 1,500 m off km 152 of Ruta PY02, in Potrero Ubaldina, roughly 25 km from the centre. ABC Color described a mini zoo with over 30 animals, horse rides, rowing-boat fishing, a beach and camping (ABC Color, 2021 (opens in a new tab)). It opened Tuesday to Sunday (ABC Color, 2016 (opens in a new tab)).
- Granja ecológica Alte Liebe. In Aguapety, on Ruta PY08 towards Villarrica: pools, sports courts, fishing ponds, farm animals and German cooking on 10 hectares.
Both sources are a few years old, so message the farm before you set off.
Water parks and day complexes
East along PY02, in Caaguazú district:
- Complejo Techapyrã. In San José Apeputy, about 3 km off PY02 via calle Jacú. A "Jurassic park" with a train and dinosaur replicas, a zip line of about 200 m, a suspension bridge and a pool. In 2021 it opened daily 8:30–18:30 (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
- Aqua Landia Delfines Park. On Ruta PY13, 1 km from the km 185 roundabout (Toro Blanco): a big pool, pirate ships, an aquarium and giant insect figures, 8:30–18:00 (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
Towards Asunción, in San José de los Arroyos:
- Granja Mboity. At km 107.6 of PY02: playground, treehouse, pool, farm animals and horse rides (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). On the way if you are heading back to the capital.
Festivals and a Villarrica side trip
- Festival del Ajo. The city's big night, in early October at Estadio Municipal El Cerrito, part of the founding and Virgen del Rosario celebrations. The 2016 edition started at 21:00 and children up to 10 got in free (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). With little ones, bring a jacket and go early.
- Villarrica via PY08. For a big park, Parque Manuel Ortiz Guerrero has a lagoon with capybaras and ducks kids can see up close (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
Planning the day
- Coronel Oviedo is about 132 km from Asunción on PY02 and sits where PY08 crosses it, so farms and complexes are on paved highways.
- Do outdoor stops early and save the mall for the hottest hours.
- Carry cash and ask the farms beforehand whether they take QR or cards.
