Clothes shopping in Luque happens in three quite different places: the town centre around Mercado Municipal No. 1; the market itself, with clothing shops on the second floor; and Shopping Estación Los Jardines on Avenida General Aquino. Pick the one that fits what you're after, and before paying ask about sizes, alterations and the exchange policy.

Where are the clothing stores in Luque?

  • The centre and its boutiques: shops cluster in the blocks around the old market, among banks, stores and street vendors, with Avenida Humaitá and its central walkway as a landmark (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). It's the area to walk and compare several shop windows in one morning.
  • Mercado Municipal No. 1: the second floor has clothing shops with prices from G. 45,000, according to a late-2024 report; the ground floor sells fruit, vegetables and meat (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). Good for basics and quick buys.
  • Shopping Estación Los Jardines: on Avenida General Aquino at Teniente Rivas, at the entrance to town next to the Los Jardines supermarket; its mix includes women's and men's fashion, accessories and tech (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). It opened in October 2022 with 50 brands (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). Choose it if you want fitting rooms, several brands in one place and shelter from heat or rain.

How do you get there without losing the morning?

  • Skip the car for the centre. Streets around the market, such as Capitán Bado, Javier Bogarín and Moisés Bertoni, have pavements taken over by vendors and little parking (ABC Color, 2024 (opens in a new tab)). Go by bus, motorbike or on foot if you can.
  • Check the roadworks for the mall. Avenida General Aquino (Tape Tuja) is being widened, with detours and single-lane stretches on some weekends (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). The work is due to finish in the first half of 2027 (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). Look at the public works ministry (MOPC) notices before heading out on a Saturday.

What is each place best for?

  • Everyday wear and basics: the market and the centre, where you can compare prices on foot.
  • Brand clothing, gifts or an outfit for an occasion: the mall, with several stores under one roof and an easier return trip if you need to exchange something.
  • New Year's Eve: at year-end the market sells clothes by colour: "white to attract peace, yellow for money and red for love," as one vendor put it (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). If that's what you want, go before 30 December.

What should you ask before paying?

  • Size and fitting: bring written measurements if you're buying for someone else, and ask whether you can try things on.
  • Alterations: if trousers or a dress need adjusting, ask whether they do it in-store, the cost and when it'll be ready.
  • Exchanges: Paraguay's consumer law, Ley 1334 (opens in a new tab), sets no general right to exchange or return in-store purchases; each shop sets its own policy. Ask first and have it noted on the invoice or receipt.
  • Orders by WhatsApp or Instagram with delivery: the same law gives seven days to withdraw when the contract was made outside the premises, especially by phone or at your home, as long as the item is unworn and undamaged (art. 26).

How to pay and what to check in sales

  • QR, card or cash: QR is now the most used electronic method, at 68.1% of payments according to Bancard (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). Carry cash too for the market and street stalls.
  • Sales: the consumer agency Sedeco says the price tag must show the previous price, the discount percentage and the current cash price in guaraníes (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
  • Instalments: on credit sales they must tell you the cash price, the interest, the number of instalments and the total.
  • Invoice: always ask for a factura; without it any complaint gets harder.

Which dates change the crowds?

On 7 October Luque celebrates its patron saint, the Virgen del Rosario (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)): confirm opening hours that week. December is busy at the market: its director reported strong Christmas sales (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)), so shop early for the holidays if you want a calmer visit.
