To shortlist an accounting firm in Coronel Oviedo, first decide what you need (monthly tax returns, payroll, electronic invoicing or setting up a company), ask two or three firms for a written proposal stating what the monthly fee covers, and check their tax ID with the DNIT before handing over your password. And before paying anyone for tax-ID paperwork, know that the DNIT does it for free.
What will you ask the accountant to do?
- Monthly and annual returns: VAT, income tax and books in the Marangatú system of the DNIT (opens in a new tab), Paraguay's tax authority. This is any firm's core service.
- Payroll: from 1 July 2026 the minimum wage is G. 3,044,000 a month (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). If you have staff, make sure the fee includes payroll and that they warn you about adjustments.
- Electronic invoicing: the DNIT keeps adding taxpayers in groups. General Resolution 52/2026 designated about 3,000 more, with start dates from 1 June 2026 to 1 September 2027, notifying each one through the Marandu tax mailbox; from that date their preprinted invoice authorisation expires (DNIT (opens in a new tab)). Ask the firm whether it has checked your mailbox and which group you are in.
- Setting up a company: an EAS (simplified joint-stock company) with standard by-laws can be set up online in up to 72 hours at no cost (MIC (opens in a new tab)). If yours is simple, save the accountant's fee for what comes after.
What can you do for free without a firm?
- Tax-ID (RUC) procedures: in July 2026 the DNIT reminded taxpayers that registering, updating and closing a RUC, compliance certificates and service at its offices are all free (DNIT, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). If someone charges you just to register, that is not a DNIT fee.
- Invoicing as a small taxpayer: the DNIT offers e-Kuatia'i, a free e-invoicing system used by more than 10,000 small taxpayers by November 2025 (DNIT, 2025 (opens in a new tab)).
- Questions: the DNIT call centre answers free on (021) 729 7000, Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00, according to its 2023 report (DNIT (opens in a new tab)).
An accountant saves you time when you have staff, several lines of business or arrears to sort out; for a simple small business, these tools are often enough.
Why Coronel Oviedo calls for a firm that knows business clients
The city's economy grew 8% in 2024 after three years at 1% a year, according to the research department of UNCA's economics faculty, and 100 of the 213 industries registered in Caaguazú department are in Coronel Oviedo (InfoNegocios, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). Agro-industry, textiles and timber lead, and informality is listed among the challenges. If your business is industrial or sells to other companies, look for a firm that already handles clients in your sector and knows business-to-business invoicing, not just small taxpayers.
The city is also the seat of the Caaguazú and San Pedro judicial district (Law 96/91 (opens in a new tab)). If your case could end in a labour claim or debt collection, choose a firm that works with a lawyer registered with the Supreme Court (opens in a new tab).
How to check the firm before hiring
- Valid tax ID: the DNIT's no-login services (opens in a new tab) let you see any taxpayer's RUC profile and validate a compliance certificate.
- Not barred: the DNIT publishes lists of barred businesses and taxpayers in arrears (DNIT (opens in a new tab)). Whoever does your taxes shouldn't be on them.
- An invoice for every payment: every sale of services requires one (Sedeco via ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
- Your password is yours: put in writing that the Marangatú password belongs to you, and change it if you switch firms.
What to ask for in the proposal
- What the monthly fee covers: returns, books, payroll, amended filings.
- What costs extra, and how much: annual statements, clearing arrears, switching to e-invoicing.
- How they will remind you of deadlines and how fast they reply.
- A short monthly report: sales, purchases, taxes paid and upcoming deadlines.
Coronel Oviedo sits where Routes PY02 and PY08 meet, 132 km from Asunción (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), so you can also compare with firms in the area that work online. If your business is in Caaguazú, see our guide to accounting and legal advice in Caaguazú.
