In this guide
Nightlife in Presidente Franco is low-key and local: the city's tourism happens by day around the Saltos del Monday falls and the Triple Frontier landmark (La Nación (opens in a new tab)), while the busiest bar zone is next door in Ciudad del Este, between Lago de la República and Avenida Campo Vía (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). The best plan combines both: an afternoon in Franco, dinner, then a bar in Franco or by the CDE lake, with your ride home sorted before you go out.
An afternoon in Franco first
- Saltos del Monday: about 3 km from the town centre (Última Hora, 2018 (opens in a new tab)), with a drop of more than 45 metres, trails, lookouts, zip-lining and tree-top courses (Última Hora, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). It's the city's main attraction (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). Go in daylight and bring water: it's an afternoon plan, not a night one.
- Hito Tres Fronteras: also about 3 km from the centre, where the Paraná and Iguazú rivers meet and you can see Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Take Avenida Bernardino Caballero towards Puerto Tres Fronteras; in 2016 it opened 7:00–18:00 with a G. 5,000 entry fee (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). The Paraguayan side still lacks the food and drink spaces found at the Brazilian and Argentine landmarks (Última Hora, 2026 (opens in a new tab)), so don't plan a drink there: go before dinner.
Where to drink in Presidente Franco
The town's food scene is growing around traditional Paraguayan dishes, and the municipality promotes a traditional food fair (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). For a neighbourhood bar, search your phone map around the centre and message them on WhatsApp to ask if there's music that night, whether they serve food and when they close.
For more action, cross into Ciudad del Este, which borders Franco at the Saltito stream (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)):
- Avenida del Lago, facing Lago de la República: lake-view bars, beer gardens, live music (including Brazilian pagode) and DJs; some open only Wednesday to Saturday (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)).
- Avenida Campo Vía (Área 3): bars and food courts with live shows (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)). Together with the lake it forms the city's dining hub (La Nación (opens in a new tab)).
- Boquerón: Arab restaurants and show bars (ABC Color, 2020 (opens in a new tab)), good for a long dinner before going out.
Who you'll meet
About 15,000 Brazilian students live in Ciudad del Este and Presidente Franco (La Nación (opens in a new tab)), and it shows. According to the bar owners' association, bars draw mostly Paraguayans, while around 90% of nightclub customers are Brazilian (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). So don't be surprised to hear Portuguese at the bar. QR is the usual way to pay: in April 2026 it made up 68.1% of electronic payments on the Bancard network (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
Special nights on the calendar
- 13 October: the city's founding anniversary (1929) and the feast of its patron, Our Lady of Fátima. In 2015 there was a serenade the night before, a fair, a show with local and national artists, and midnight fireworks (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). Check this year's municipal programme.
- March: the Festival de la Integración y la Hermandad en las Tres Fronteras takes place (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).
Getting home
- Public transport: stops running at a certain hour, and bar staff end up using ride-hailing apps (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). Do the same: book your ride from inside the venue.
- To or from Foz do Iguaçu: since 14 September 2026, private cars of local residents may cross the Integration Bridge only 7:00–13:00, with the border residents' transit document (DTVF), and the Franco–Foz urban bus runs 7:00–19:00 (Paraguayan Foreign Ministry (opens in a new tab)). Don't count on that bridge at night.
- If you're driving: Paraguay has zero tolerance for drink-driving; 0.251–0.399 mg/l is a very serious offence and 0.400 or more is a criminal offence (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). Winter brings constant dew and fog (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), another reason not to drive in the small hours.
- Age and street drinking: selling or giving alcohol to under-20s in public venues is banned, and so is drinking on public roads (Law 1642 (opens in a new tab)). Carry ID.
