To find a hair salon in Caacupé, separate quick jobs from long ones: a cut or a beard trim is easy to get on weekdays, often as a walk-in, while colour, highlights, straightening or an event updo need a booking. Message the salon on WhatsApp with the service, your hair length and a reference photo, and ask for the price and duration before you confirm. In late November and early December, plan around the Virgin of Caacupé festival, when the town fills up.

How to find a salon open now in Caacupé

  • Search "peluquería" (hair salon) or "barbería" (barber) on your phone's map and switch on the Open now filter. Check recent photos and reviews from the last few months, not just the star rating.
  • Many salons showcase their work on Instagram, which the trade calls its main shop window (InfoNegocios, 2024 (opens in a new tab)). Check that the photos are their own and recent.
  • Before you set off, send a short message: "¿Atienden sin turno ahora para un corte?" ("Can you take a walk-in for a cut now?"). It saves a wasted trip.

Caacupé is 54 km from Asunción on Route PY02, which runs through the district (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). If you are passing through or coming from elsewhere in Cordillera, pick a salon near PY02 or near where you will be, not across town.

Barber, neighbourhood salon or full-service salon?

  • Barber: men's cuts, fades, beards. Short jobs; many work first come, first served. The easiest option for a walk-in.
  • Neighbourhood salon: cuts, blow-dries, simple colour. Good for upkeep.
  • Full-service salon: colour, highlights, straightening, treatments, nails, make-up and updos. These take hours, so book days ahead.

Saturday is the trade's busiest day (InfoNegocios, 2024 (opens in a new tab)). For colour or a long treatment, aim for an early weekday slot.

When to book further ahead in Caacupé

The feast of the Virgin of Caacupé on 8 December is Paraguay's biggest pilgrimage (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). In 2025 the novena ran from 28 November to 8 December, and vehicles were barred from the pilgrims' stretch of road from the Ypacaraí entrance (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). For 2026 the novena is announced from 28 November to 8 December (ABC Color, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). During those weeks:

  • Book any colour or styling early, especially for 8 December or end-of-year parties.
  • Choose a salon you can reach on foot or without crossing the centre and the Basilica area.
  • Ask whether opening hours change on those days.

Outside pilgrimage season, the days before public holidays, graduations and weddings also fill up.

Colour and straightening: ask what they use

In Paraguay, cosmetics are subject to DINAVISA health registration or mandatory health notification (Ferrere (opens in a new tab)), and DINAVISA has warned about beauty products sold without registration; reports go to postcomercializacion@dinavisa.gov.py (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). Before a dye, straightening or chemical treatment:

  • Ask the brand and look at the packaging.
  • If your scalp is sensitive or you have allergies, ask for a strand test first.
  • Be wary of an unbranded straightening treatment or a price far below everyone else's.

If a salon offers fillers, botulinum toxin or other injectables, say no: the Paraguayan Society of Aesthetic Medicine says these are medical acts for licensed clinics, not hair salons (La Nación, 2023 (opens in a new tab)).

Price and payment

Paraguay's consumer protection law requires prices to be shown including taxes, along with the payment method, and any extra cost must be disclosed beforehand (Law 1334 (opens in a new tab), arts. 15 and 16). Ask for the total before starting, especially for colour and straightening, which usually depend on hair length, and whether washing or treatments cost extra.

QR codes are now the most common electronic payment: in April 2026 they accounted for 68.1% of payments processed by Bancard (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). Still ask whether they take QR, card, bank transfer or cash only, and whether they want a deposit for long jobs.
