To compare car dealerships in Caacupé, ask two or three yards for the same vehicle with cash and financed prices in writing, have the car checked before you pay a deposit, and close the sale by deed before a notary. Caacupé is 54 km from Asunción on Ruta PY02, so include dealers along the highway and in the capital: the same model often turns up in both places.

Where to look if you live in Caacupé

Caacupé sits on Ruta PY02, 54 km from Asunción, in the Cordillera de los Altos hills (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). In practice you have two markets:

  • In town and nearby: used-car yards ("playas") and agencies that know local demand. Search your phone's map for "playa de autos" and "concesionaria" with "Caacupé" and save three options for the same type of vehicle.
  • Along the PY02 towards Asunción: more brands and more new-car stock. Before you drive down, send the model, year and trim on WhatsApp and ask for photos and a price. Allow for delays at the Ypacaraí toll at km 48, which saw heavy jams in late September 2026 (Hoy, 2026 (opens in a new tab)).
  • Avoid pilgrimage season: from 28 November, with the novena, the PY02 has pilgrim lanes from the Ypacaraí toll and a stretch closed to vehicles from the Ypacaraí entrance (La Nación, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). Do not plan to collect a car or do paperwork in Asunción then.

To compare many new-car brands at once, the yearly Cadam Motor Show brings together more than 40 brands with bank, finance-company and cooperative deals; in 2026 it was held at Paseo La Galería in Asunción and closed on 9 August (ABC Color, 2026 (opens in a new tab)).

Which papers to see before you pay

How to avoid buying a stolen car

In July 2026 the police warned that vehicles stolen in Brazil are sold in Paraguay repainted or modified and with forged papers, often through social media; Toyota Fortuner and Hilux were the most seized models (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). Their advice is a full check at the National Police vehicle control department (Departamento de Control de Automotores), Paz del Chaco corner Urundey, Santa Lucía, Lambaré, phone (021) 302 820 or 302 229. From Caacupé that is a trip, so call ahead for hours and pay nothing until you have the result.

If you finance through the yard

For a credit sale, Law 1334/98 (opens in a new tab) (art. 29) requires the cash price, interest and rate, any surcharges, number and frequency of instalments, the total payable and what happens if either side defaults. Article 30 lets you pay off early with a proportional cut in interest. Get that breakdown in writing from each yard and compare the total, not the monthly payment.

Test it on Caacupé's terrain

  • Hills: the town sits on a hill surrounded by valleys and low ridges (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Test the car uphill with passengers and listen to the engine and gearbox.
  • Air conditioning: average highs reach 39 °C (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Test it idling and on the move.
  • Your own mechanic: ask to have it inspected before signing. A serious yard will not refuse.
