To choose a spa in Itauguá, start with what you want out of it: a massage to work out a knot, a facial, waxing, or simply some quiet time. Then look for somewhere on your side of Route 2, or someone who comes to your home if it is just a massage, and get the final price and what is included in writing before you book. Anything with needles, fillers or lasers belongs in a licensed clinic, not a spa.

Massage, beauty treatment or spa day?

Pin down what you are looking for before you message anyone:

  • Massage: relaxing, deep-tissue, hot stones or lymphatic drainage. The most widely offered service and the easiest to book.
  • Beauty treatments: facials, hair removal, body treatments. Ask who does the work and what training they have.
  • Spa day or couples' session: several treatments combined. Book early for Mother's Day, which is 15 May in Paraguay, or Valentine's Day.
  • Home massage: handy if you live far from the centre. Ask whether they bring a table and towels and what they charge for travel.

If you are trying to fix an injury or pain that will not go away, that is a job for a physiotherapist. See a doctor first.

Where in Itauguá should you look?

Route 2 (Mariscal Estigarribia) runs right across Itauguá and splits it roughly in half; the main shops line it, according to Wikipedia (opens in a new tab). The district has 46 barrios, from Guayaibity and Valle Karé to Potrero Guazú, plus rural areas such as Estanzuela and Patiño on Lake Ypacaraí. A spa "in Itauguá" can still be several kilometres away.

  • Stay on your side of the highway. Crossing Route 2 at rush hour can take longer than the treatment. One crash can shut it: in 2024 a truck pile-up near Calle Virgen del Rosario closed both directions for more than four hours (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)).
  • If you live near the border with Capiatá, Ypacaraí, Areguá or J. Augusto Saldívar, a spa in the neighbouring town may be closer (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).
  • If you work in Asunción, about 30 km away, decide whether a slot near work or near home suits you better.
  • In early December, the Virgin of Caacupé festival on the 8th has brought traffic diversions starting in Itauguá at km 31 in past years (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). Around those days, pick somewhere in your own neighbourhood.

To find options, search "spa" or "masajes" in your phone's map app near your barrio and check recent photos and reviews.

What a spa cannot do

Massages, facials and waxing are spa work. Aesthetic medicine is not: the Paraguayan Society of Aesthetic Medicine, quoted by La Nación (opens in a new tab), says it is a medical act that a doctor must perform in a clinic licensed by the Ministry of Health and the Health Superintendency, never in a spa, a hair salon or at home, and only on adults.

This is not just paperwork. In November 2024 the Health Superintendency, with the Ombudsman's office and consumer agency Sedeco, inspected about a hundred beauty centres in Asunción and closed or suspended more than 50 (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). In October 2026 the regulator Dinavisa warned that unregistered facial injectables are in circulation and urged people to demand proof of registration and origin before any procedure (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).

If a spa offers you injections or laser treatment, ask who will do it and whether the premises hold a Ministry of Health licence. If they dodge the question, go elsewhere.

What to ask on WhatsApp before you go

  • What the session includes: whether 60 minutes is all massage or includes the chat and changing time.
  • Final price: whether oils, stones or scrubs cost extra.
  • Therapist: whether you can choose a man or a woman, and whether they see male clients.
  • Deposit: how much, how to pay it and how much notice you need to reschedule.
  • What to bring: whether towels, a robe and flip-flops are provided.

Paraguay's consumer law, Ley 1334/98 (opens in a new tab), requires providers to state the price including taxes and the payment method (art. 15), and to tell you before adding any unplanned cost (art. 16). Keep the confirmation message.

On the day

Itauguá is warm and humid for most of the year (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). In summer, drink water before and after, and if there is a sauna or steam room, do not go in on a full stomach or after alcohol. Arrive ten minutes early: a rushed start wastes part of the session.

If you are pregnant, have high blood pressure, a heart condition, marked varicose veins or a recent injury, check with your doctor before a deep massage or sauna, and tell the therapist before you begin.

Paying, and what to ask for at the end

QR is the most common way to pay: 7 in 10 electronic payments in Paraguay go through QR, according to Bancard data published by ABC Color (opens in a new tab). Ask anyway whether they take cards or transfers. Ask for an invoice (factura), especially if you buy a package of sessions, and note when the sessions expire. For a gift, ask whether they sell vouchers and how long they are valid.

FAQ

How do I find a spa in Itauguá?

Search "spa" or "masajes" in your phone's map app near your barrio and on your side of Route 2, where most businesses are. If you live near Capiatá or Ypacaraí, check the neighbouring town too.

Can I get a massage at home in Itauguá?

Many massage therapists do home visits. Ask whether they bring a table and towels and what the travel charge is; aesthetic medicine, by contrast, must not be done at home.

Can a spa give fillers or toxin injections?

No. It is a medical act performed by a doctor in a clinic licensed by the Ministry of Health and the Health Superintendency, using products registered with Dinavisa.

When should I book ahead?

Before Mother's Day (15 May), Valentine's Day, public holidays and on Saturday afternoons. Weekday mornings are usually easier.
