In this guide
In Itauguá, nights out happen in two places: the downtown blocks around the Virgen del Rosario church, where bars, restaurants and pizzerias cluster (La Nación (opens in a new tab)), and Ruta PY02, where garden bars, café-bars and Latin-music and karaoke bars have opened in recent years (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). The biggest nights of the year are the ñandutí celebrations in October and November, with free parties in the square.
Where to go out at night in Itauguá
- Town centre, by the church: the Virgen del Rosario church is the meeting point, with its small square and the Paseo José Asunción Flores, a garden with a fountain, in front (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). The centre's bars and pizzerias are around it: a good place to start with food and keep walking.
- Paseo de los Ilustres: one block from the church on General Bernardino Caballero, with murals and the "Cielo de Ñandutíes", an installation of ñandutí lace hung over the street (Última Hora (opens in a new tab), La Nación (opens in a new tab)). Street parties such as San Juan have been held there.
- Ruta PY02: the highway into town has venues with their own parking and room for groups or families (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)). Handy if you drive from Asunción or San Lorenzo.
What kind of night do you want?
- Quiet, to talk: a downtown café-bar that shifts from afternoon to evening, with snacks and drinks (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)).
- With family or a big group: a garden bar on the highway, with room for kids to play and pizzas, burgers and beer (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)).
- Dancing until late: some bars run cumbia, vallenato and karaoke nights and stay open until 5:00 on Fridays and Saturdays (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)).
Before heading out, check the venue's social media: that is where they post the night's music and whether to book.
When is the best night of the year?
- National Ñandutí Day (second Sunday of October): set by Law 6105. In 2025 Saturday brought a craft fair and food court from 10:00 in the church square and a folk party from 20:00; Sunday had a float parade along Tte. Esteban Martínez street (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). In 2026 it falls on Sunday 11 October.
- Festival Nacional del Ñandutí: the 46th edition in 2025 had a dance night on Friday and the main night on Saturday at Club Olimpia, km 32 of Ruta PY02, from 20:30, with free entry, a food court and a craft fair (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)). Arrive early to get a spot.
- Town anniversary (late June): Itauguá celebrates its founding with a parade of students and local groups (ABC Color (opens in a new tab)).
A night out in Itauguá
- At dusk: walk the church square and the Paseo de los Ilustres to see the Cielo de Ñandutíes.
- Dinner: try lambreado, a local minced-beef dish found mainly around the municipal market (La Nación (opens in a new tab)), or pizza in the centre.
- After: pick a bar to match the plan: conversation downtown, a garden on the highway or dancing until late.
Getting there and back
Itauguá is about 30 km from Asunción along Ruta PY02 (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). If you go as a group from the capital, agree beforehand who drives and do not drink if you are behind the wheel. On festival nights, leave with time to spare.
