In this guide
Entertainment in Luque runs on three things: football, with the CONMEBOL Museum and Sportivo Luqueño match nights at the Feliciano Cáceres; the Peatonal Histórica, the pedestrian street where downtown shows and folk nights happen; and the big parks, Ñu Guasu and the Olympic Park. Add the city's festivals, especially 22 February and 7 October, and you have a full weekend.
Football: museum by day, stadium by night
- CONMEBOL Museum (South American Football Museum). Next to CONMEBOL's headquarters near the airport, with audiovisual and interactive exhibits on South American football (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). It holds 65 Copa Libertadores champions' shirts, 22 from the Sudamericana and 16 from the women's Libertadores, plus items from Pelé, Maradona, Di Stéfano, Messi, Garrincha and Zico. It opens Monday to Friday 8:00–18:00 and Saturday 9:00–12:00; entry is free with advance booking at conmebol.com/museo-conmebol (La Nación, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). Book first: no booking, no entry.
- Estadio Feliciano Cáceres. Home of Sportivo Luqueño, holding 27,000 people (ABC Color, 2023 (opens in a new tab)) and a Copa América 1999 venue (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). On match nights the area fills with vendors and police barriers go up (Última Hora, 2015 (opens in a new tab)): arrive early and park well away.
Shows and culture downtown
- Peatonal Histórica. On Mariscal López between Teniente Herrero Bueno and Rosario: colonial buildings, restaurants and street performances, declared of tourist interest by Senatur (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). The city's culture office stages its celebrations here: in 2023 a folk night the evening before the anniversary and, on 22 February, a show from 19:00 with the Municipal Dance School and guest artists (ABC Color, 2023 (opens in a new tab)); in 2022, a 19:30 play about the time Luque was the capital (ABC Color, 2022 (opens in a new tab)).
- Centro Cultural Municipal Balderrama. The municipal public library and cultural centre (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Ask there for the month's cultural programme.
- Conservatorio Municipal de Música Ciudad de Luque. The city's music school (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), a good starting point for concerts or lessons.
- Santuario Virgen del Rosario and Plaza General Aquino. The patron saint's church, completed in 1939, and the central square with General Aquino's mausoleum (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), steps from the Peatonal.
Sport and the outdoors
- Parque Ñu Guasu. One of the largest parks in the metro area, with tennis, basketball and football courts and the Las Residentas monument (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). It has walking, running and cycling circuits, shady areas, toilets, cold-water fountains every kilometre, ambulances and a first-aid post; on the 1 May 2025 holiday it opened 5:00–21:30 (Hoy, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). Go early or at sunset and bring tereré.
- Parque Olímpico Paraguayo. Luque's main venue for the 2022 South American Games, with a velodrome, BMX track, skatepark, athletics track, the Los Pynandi beach-soccer stadium and the Héroes de Curupayty rugby stadium (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Follow the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, based in Luque (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), for tournaments and open events.
Craft walk: filigree and harps
Luque is known for gold and silver filigree and for workshops making Paraguayan harps and guitars (La Nación, 2021 (opens in a new tab)). Jewellery workshops were historically clustered on Avenida General Aquino (ABC Color, 2023 (opens in a new tab)). Walk it by day, when shops are open, and finish at the Peatonal.
Dates to save
- 22 February: anniversary of Luque as capital of the Republic, with events on the Peatonal (ABC Color, 2023 (opens in a new tab)).
- 1 May: Sportivo Luqueño's anniversary (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).
- 7 October: feast of the Virgen del Rosario, the city's patron (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).

Eating and ending the night
Plaza Madero, on Autopista Silvio Pettirossi at Torokay on the way to the airport, has restaurants open in the evening, about 300 parking spaces and a 24-hour supermarket (Hoy, 2021 (opens in a new tab); La Nación, 2021 (opens in a new tab)). It is handy after a match or before a flight: Silvio Pettirossi airport sits at the entrance to Luque, about 10 minutes from Asunción (La Nación, 2021 (opens in a new tab)). The main roads in town are Avenida General Elizardo Aquino, Autopista Ñu Guasu and Avenida Las Residentas (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).
