In Fernando de la Mora you will mostly find small spas and massage studios that work by appointment, spread through residential neighborhoods and near the avenues that link the city to Asunción and San Lorenzo. To choose well, decide first what you want (to relax, to work out knots, or a beauty treatment), look for somewhere close to your daily route, and book by phone or WhatsApp asking about the real session length, the price and who will treat you.

What do you need: massage, spa or aesthetics?

A relaxing massage and a beauty treatment are different things, and it helps to know which one you want before you message anyone:

  • Relaxing or deep-tissue massage: almost every spa offers it. It is the easiest to book and the best fit for an after-work slot.
  • Facials, skin cleansing, body treatments: ask what equipment and products they use and who applies them.
  • Injectables, laser and other aesthetic-medicine procedures: according to the Paraguayan Society of Aesthetic Medicine, these are medical acts that must be done in a clinic licensed by the Ministry of Health and the Health Superintendency, with products registered with Dinavisa, and not in spas, salons or at home (La Nación (opens in a new tab)).

If a spa offers anything in that third group, ask who the responsible doctor is before you say yes.

Where to look in Fernando de la Mora

The city borders Asunción to the west and San Lorenzo, Luque, Ñemby and Villa Elisa on its other sides. Big avenues cross it: Mariscal López, Eusebio Ayala (Route PY02), Defensores del Chaco–Madame Lynch and Avenida Fernando de la Mora (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).

In practice, rush-hour traffic matters most:

  • If you work in Asunción, pick a place near the avenue you take home; crossing from one avenue to another at 6 p.m. can eat half an hour of your booking.
  • If you live in the city, a neighborhood spa on a quiet street is usually calmer than one on a main road.
  • Ask about parking. On residential streets it is often on the curb or half a block away.

How to book without surprises

Almost all of them work from an appointment book, and online hours do not always match real availability. When you write, ask:

  • Real session length: how much is massage and how much is setup or changing.
  • What the package includes: back only or full body, with or without a facial.
  • Who treats you: whether you can choose a therapist and whether they are in that day.
  • Payment: cash, bank transfer, QR or card. Do not assume cards are accepted.
  • Cancellation policy: how much notice you need to give.

Ask them to confirm the price in the same chat. It avoids arguments at the till.

Signs of a serious place

You can spot a good spa before the session starts:

  • License on display. After a case of laser hair-removal burns, the Health Superintendency advised that centers display their license in the waiting room and that clients ask if they cannot see it (Hoy (opens in a new tab)).
  • They ask about your health: pregnancy, blood pressure, injuries, allergies or recent surgery. If nobody asks anything, that is a bad sign.
  • Visible hygiene: clean sheets for each client, washed hands, labeled products.
  • You can say no. You can ask for less pressure, skip an area or stop the session. A professional takes it in stride.

Spa or health professional?

If you have pain that will not go away, an injury or a back problem, a relaxing massage may ease it but does not replace a consultation. See your doctor or a physiotherapist first and use the spa for upkeep. The same goes for weight-loss or spot-removal treatments: if they promise medical results, ask who supervises them.

When to go and how to get the most from it

  • Weekday mornings or early afternoons usually have more open slots than after 6 p.m. or on Saturdays.
  • In summer, drink water before and after, and avoid rushing over in the midday sun: you arrive overheated and lose the first part of the session.
  • Arrive ten minutes early to fill in the intake form without cutting into your time.
  • After the massage, do not plan anything demanding. If you can, keep the rest of the afternoon free or head home without hurrying.

FAQ
