In this guide
To pick a spa or beauty centre in Santa Rita, first decide what you want: a massage or a relaxing day, a beauty treatment (facial, hair removal) or a medical-aesthetic procedure, which in Paraguay is a medical act done in a licensed clinic. Then message to confirm the slot, duration and total price, and if your date falls during the Expo Santa Rita, book well ahead.
Spa, beauty centre or clinic?
They are three different things, and it helps to know which one you are in:
- Spa and massage: relaxing or deep-tissue massage and relaxation circuits. This is what most people mean by "spa Santa Rita".
- Beauty centre (estética): facials, waxing, manicures, body treatments. If they offer laser hair removal, ask to see the Ministry of Health licence. In 2023 the health regulator (Superintendencia de Salud) temporarily closed an unlicensed laser hair-removal centre after a client suffered burns, and said centres should display their licence, for example in the waiting room (Hoy, 2023 (opens in a new tab)).
- Medical aesthetics: according to the Paraguayan Society of Aesthetic Medicine, these procedures are a medical act, must be done by a doctor and should take place in a clinic licensed by the Ministry of Health and the Superintendencia de Salud, not in hair salons, spas or at home. Products used must be registered with DINAVISA, the national health products regulator (La Nación, 2023 (opens in a new tab)).
What to ask before booking
- What is included: actual treatment length, whether the price is per session or package, and any extras.
- Who treats you: their training and, for beauty treatments, whether the premises are licensed. The first thing to ask about is the practitioner's training (La Nación, 2023 (opens in a new tab)).
- Health: mention allergies, pregnancy, high blood pressure or injuries, and ask which oils or products they use.
- Cancellation: how late you can reschedule without losing your deposit.
- Language: about 46% of Santa Rita's population is of Brazilian origin and Portuguese is spoken in town (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), alongside Spanish and Guaraní.
When should you book ahead?
The busiest time is the Expo Santa Rita, held at the Centro de Tradiciones Gauchas "Indio José". The 30th edition ran from 27 April to 5 May 2024 (La Nación, 2024 (opens in a new tab)), and in 2019 organisers expected more than 150,000 visitors over nine days (Infonegocios, 2019 (opens in a new tab)). During those weeks, book your treatment and accommodation before travelling. Outside the Expo, message a day ahead for weekends and holidays.
Coming from out of town?
Santa Rita is about 70 km south of Ciudad del Este: take PY02 to around kilometre 30, then PY06 for about 40 km. From Asunción it is about 340 km (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). If you are making the trip for a spa day:
- Book a mid-morning or afternoon slot so you are not rushing.
- Stop at the Túnel Verde in barrio 14 de Mayo, the town's best-known sight (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).
- Summer highs reach around 38 °C (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). After a massage or sauna, drink water and avoid driving straight away in the sun.
How to pay and what to bring
- QR is now the most used electronic payment in Paraguay: 68.1% of electronic payments in April 2026, according to Bancard (ABC Color, 2026 (opens in a new tab)). Still ask whether they take cards or transfers, and carry some cash in case the system is down.
- A screenshot of your booking with date, time, service and price.
- Comfortable clothes and, for facials, skin without make-up.
Signs to look elsewhere
- They will not give you the total price before the appointment.
- They offer medical procedures (injectables or laser) without a doctor or licensed clinic.
- They cannot show you their licence when asked.
- They want full payment upfront without written confirmation of the service.
