In San Lorenzo, the big hardware stores sit along Route PY02 (Mariscal Estigarribia) and around Avenida Defensores del Chaco, where chains such as Lincoln, SEMAR and Baumarket have branches; for something small and urgent, your neighborhood ferretería is usually faster. Before you set out, write down the measurements, send a photo of the part on WhatsApp and check they have it today: crossing the city on the highway at rush hour can take longer than the shopping.

Where are the big hardware stores in San Lorenzo?

San Lorenzo's commerce is concentrated along Route PY02 and the Mariscal Estigarribia and Julia Miranda Cueto de Estigarribia avenues (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). That is also where the chains have branches:

If you live towards Capiatá, Fernando de la Mora or Luque, check the branches in those cities too; sometimes they are closer than downtown San Lorenzo.

Neighborhood store, big chain or industrial supplier?

  • Neighborhood ferretería: for screws, tape, a tap washer, a light bulb or a faucet part. Fast service, advice included, and many sell by the unit.
  • Big chain: better for power tools, paint in quantity, building materials or comparing brands.
  • Industrial hardware store: if you need graded bolts, bearings, belts, hydraulic hoses, cutting discs in bulk or safety gear for a workshop or factory. Ask whether they sell by the box, issue invoices with a company RUC (tax ID) and order what they do not stock.

If you are not sure which you need, start with the neighborhood store: if it does not have the item, you will know exactly what to ask for at the big one.

What are the opening hours?

Hours vary by branch, especially on Saturdays. Lincoln San Lorenzo opens Monday to Friday 7:30 to 18:00 and Saturday 7:30 to 17:00 (Lincoln (opens in a new tab)), the only one of these three that publishes Saturday-afternoon hours. SEMAR and Baumarket do not publish hours for their San Lorenzo branches online, so call or message before you go.

On Sundays and public holidays, do not assume they are open; check that morning. If you need a hardware store open near you on a Sunday, your neighborhood is the likeliest bet, not a chain.

How do you get there without losing the morning?

San Lorenzo is the "University City": the main UNA campus is here, and about 850,000 people come into the city each day and leave at the end of it (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). You feel it on the highway.

  • Timing: go mid-morning or early afternoon, not when classes or offices start or finish.
  • Electric bus: lines E1, E2 and E3 link the Port of Asunción with San Lorenzo and Luque via Eusebio Ayala, Mariscal López and Silvio Pettirossi, departing every 30 minutes (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). Good if your purchase fits in a bag.
  • Big orders: ask about delivery, its cost and the delivery day before paying. For a building job, make sure someone is home to receive it.

What should you bring so you do not have to go back?

  • Exact measurements: diameter, thread, length, voltage or paint code. Save them on your phone.
  • The old part or a photo: saves explanations, especially for plumbing and electrical.
  • A list by trade: split plumbing, electrical, paint and fixings; at the chains each section has its own salesperson.
  • Cut to size: if you need pipe, sheet metal or chain cut, ask whether that branch does it the same day.

How do you pay, and what if you need to exchange something?

  • Payment: 7 in 10 electronic payments in Paraguay are made by QR, according to Bancard data reported by ABC Color (opens in a new tab). Chains usually take QR and cards; at a neighborhood store, bring cash too.
  • Bank transfers: a screenshot is not always accepted as proof; wait until the store sees the money arrive.
  • Exchanges: keep the receipt and do not open the packaging if you are unsure of the size. Ask about the exchange policy before paying, especially for power tools and cut-to-size material.
  • Invoice: if it is for a job or your company, ask for the invoice with your RUC at the time of purchase.

FAQ

Where are the big hardware stores in San Lorenzo?

Lincoln is on Route 2, km 14.5; SEMAR at Ruta Mariscal Estigarribia 430; and Baumarket at Saturio Ríos and Avenida Defensores del Chaco. For small items, a neighborhood ferretería is usually quicker.

Which hardware store is open on Saturday afternoon?

Lincoln San Lorenzo lists Saturdays 7:30 to 17:00. SEMAR and Baumarket do not publish hours for their San Lorenzo branches, so check before going.

Is there a hardware store open near me on Sunday?

Do not assume so: the chains do not list Sunday hours for San Lorenzo. A neighborhood ferretería is your best bet; confirm that morning.

What should I bring to a hardware store?

Exact measurements, the old part or a photo, and a list split by trade. It saves a second trip across a city with heavy traffic.
