Entertainment in San Lorenzo revolves around three spots: the Ciclovía park beside the UNA campus for walking, cycling or an open-air show; the historic centre with the cathedral, pedestrian street and Municipal Theatre; and the malls for cinema and games when it rains or the heat is too much. To see the city at its liveliest, go in the week of 10 August, its patron saint's day.

What to do outdoors

Ciclovía de San Lorenzo. The city's main park, next to the National University of Asunción (UNA), with bike paths, sports courts and a lagoon (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). A renovation started in late 2024 added an artificial lagoon with a waterfall, lit trails, five courts with stands, outdoor gym equipment and two play areas, one wheelchair-accessible (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). The classic entrance is on Calle Coronel Romero (ABC (opens in a new tab)).

  • When: late afternoon, as the heat drops. Bring water in summer.
  • Watch the calendar: the Ciclovía also hosts big concerts; on the eve of the 2022 anniversary there was a free show with Kchiporros and Tierra Adentro (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)).

National Museum of Natural History of Paraguay. On the Agriculture Ministry grounds opposite the UNA (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), at Ruta Mariscal Estigarribia km 13.5 and Avenida del Agrónomo. Open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 2 pm (La Nación, 2024 (opens in a new tab)). Pair it with the Ciclovía on the same morning.

What to see in the historic centre

Cathedral and Plaza Cerro Corá. The neo-Gothic cathedral in the San Pedro neighbourhood has a tower clock brought from Asunción's cathedral in 1884 (ABC (opens in a new tab)). The plaza next to it is the centre's meeting point.

Pedestrian street and Paseo Bicentenario. The pedestrian street opposite the town hall has monuments and historic buildings (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), and in front of the Municipal Theatre stands a replica of the old Tren Lechero (milk train), a favourite photo stop (ABC (opens in a new tab)).

Estación del Tren Lechero Cultural Centre. In the rebuilt old station at Calle España and Avenida Defensores del Chaco (ABC (opens in a new tab)). Check its social media for exhibitions or workshops.

Teatro Municipal Don Alberto Sánchez Benítez. The city's theatre; in 2025 the culture department staged the historic photo show "Cabildo nde távape" there (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). Follow the municipality's agenda for plays and exhibitions.

Cinema, games or football?

San Lorenzo Shopping. On Route PY02 around km 15, on the east side of the city (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), with a food court and a four-screen cinema according to InfoNegocios (2017) (opens in a new tab). Check listings before you go.

Pinedo Shopping. Its 2024 expansion announced Skygames, a family games area of more than 1,300 m² (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)), and it hosted the official serenade during the 2025 patron saint festivities (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). An easy rainy-day plan with kids.

Estadio Gunther Vogel. Home of Club Sportivo San Lorenzo, holding about 6,200 people (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Check the club's fixtures and arrive early for big matches.

Bowling? The nearest bowling alley with published information is Strike Bowling on Avenida Cacique Lambaré in Lambaré, with 20 lanes (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab); Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). In October 2026 it opened Tuesday to Sunday, 16:00 to midnight (Instagram (opens in a new tab)). Book a lane if you're a group.

Where to eat afterwards

Lido Bar San Lorenzo. The branch of the Asunción classic opened in 2024 (InfoNegocios (opens in a new tab)) in Paseo La Catedral, at Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia and Coronel Bogado, with its own parking. Open daily 8 am to 10 pm, serving empanadas, chipa guasu, milanesas and surubí (ABC, 2025 (opens in a new tab)). Good for wrapping up a walk downtown, but it closes early.

When the whole city comes out

10 August is San Lorenzo's patron saint day and the city's anniversary. In 2026 celebrations ran from 31 July to 10 August, with free serenades at the UNACE venue on Avenida Mariscal López and on the cathedral esplanade (Hoy (opens in a new tab)). In 2025 there was a fair outside the town hall, music on the pedestrian street, a rap festival and a procession (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)). 15 August, the feast of the Virgin of the Assumption, is the second patronal date (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).

Getting there from Asunción

Electric bus E1 links central Asunción with San Lorenzo via Route PY02 and Avenida del Agrónomo; it runs 5 am to 11 pm and the fare was G. 3,400 in early 2026 (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). After a night show, take a ride-hailing car back. If driving, avoid Avenida Mariscal López at rush hour, when UNA student traffic fills it (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).
