To choose a consultant in San Alberto, first pin down what you need solved: tax and bookkeeping, setting up a company, an employment or legal matter, or business management. Then ask two advisers for a written proposal with scope, deliverables and fees. Before paying anyone, check what you can do for free: registering an EAS company costs nothing with the standard articles, and a public centre in Ciudad del Este gives free technical help to small businesses.
What kind of advice do you need?
San Alberto is a farming town in northern Alto Paraná, nicknamed the "Capital del Agro" for its soy, wheat and maize (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)), and home to most of the area's banks and agribusinesses (Última Hora, 2021 (opens in a new tab)). Most requests fall into these groups:
- Tax and bookkeeping: returns, ledgers and invoicing. Look for someone fluent in the Marangatú system and electronic invoicing of DNIT (opens in a new tab), Paraguay's tax authority.
- Company set-up: for a simple EAS, you can do most of it yourself (see below). An adviser earns their fee with several partners, land or machinery as capital, or custom articles.
- Employment and legal: contracts for farm or shop staff, dismissals, debt collection or claims. To represent you in court you need a registered lawyer; registration (matrícula) is handled by the Supreme Court (opens in a new tab).
- Management and finance: costs, pricing, a business plan or a loan application file. Try the free centre in Ciudad del Este first.
What to check before hiring
- Invoices: consumer agency Sedeco says every sale of goods and services must be invoiced (opens in a new tab). Ask for the adviser's RUC tax number and an invoice for every payment.
- Not barred: DNIT publishes lists of barred businesses and taxpayers in arrears (opens in a new tab). Whoever handles your taxes should not be on them.
- Lawyer registration: ask for the matrícula number before signing a power of attorney.
- Written scope: what they deliver, by when, what's included and what costs extra.
- Language: in San Alberto Portuguese is spoken in any business (opens in a new tab). If you prefer Portuguese, ask whether they can explain things in it, but filings with DNIT and the ministry go through Paraguay's official systems.
- Deadlines: ask how they remind you of due dates. In bookkeeping, much of the value is there.
Setting up a company: do you need a consultant?
For an Empresa por Acciones Simplificadas (EAS), the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) (opens in a new tab) states that:
- The process is fully online at eas.mic.gov.py, through the SUACE single window.
- With the standard articles, it is set up within 72 hours at zero cost.
- There is no minimum or maximum capital, and partners are liable only up to their contributions.
- You log in with the legal representative's electronic ID, and that person must be Paraguayan or hold a Paraguayan ID card (cédula).
Between February 2021 and November 2024, 13,744 companies were created this way (La Nación (opens in a new tab)). According to the MIC, under the new SME law regulations microbusinesses can also register at no cost for their first three years and open a bank account with the Cédula Mipymes (La Nación, December 2025 (opens in a new tab)). If your case is simple, do it yourself and spend the adviser budget on tax.
Is there free business advice near San Alberto?
Yes, in Ciudad del Este. The MIC's SBDC business development centre, run with the Itaipú Technology Park, opened in April 2024 on Itaipú property in Área 3 of Ciudad del Este (Última Hora (opens in a new tab); La Nación (opens in a new tab)). It helps with business ideas, formalisation, business plans and loan application files, and finding markets (Última Hora (opens in a new tab)).
According to La Nación (December 2025) (opens in a new tab), its technical assistance is free from the first contact, reached a thousand clients, and the team toured the department's interior. Get in touch to book before you travel and ask whether they offer remote sessions.
Planning meetings from San Alberto
San Alberto is about 90 km north of Ciudad del Este (opens in a new tab) on Route PY07 (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). That shapes how you work with an adviser:
- Hold the first meeting by video call and keep in-person visits for signing or reviewing documents.
- Compare local advisers with those in Ciudad del Este: what matters is a clear proposal, not distance.
- Bring a one-page summary: what your business does, how many staff, what you need to decide and by when.
